Gasifier truck set up/ DAVID ORRELL

8 - 7 - 12 PROGRESS. PHOTO,S COOLING RACK GOING ON FIRST.

Looking good David, I like your design can’t wait to see it all together

Looks good Dave, the gasser installation must be in the near future.

Peter

Puzzle pieces are coming together. The end is in sight, know it must be exciting.

It looks great! I love the cooling rack! It looks like it should be a radiator grill for one of those big mining trucks.

You should put the cleanout on the bottom with a trigger release in the cab. Then if you can get the pallets chunks working with the nails, you could call it a spy car…

THANKS GUYS, FOR THE GOOD REVIEWS, I HOPE TO MOUNT THE GASIFIER AND SEPERATING TANK SOON, BUT FIRST I WILL MOUNT THE STRAW FILTER AND FLARE OF BLOWER THIS WEEK LORD WILLING. THE GASIFIER NEEDS SOME FINAL FINISH UP , THE GRATE SHAKER IS ONE THING THAT I HAVE NOT GOT TOGETHER YET . THE SEPERATING TANK ALSO HAS SOME FINAL DETAILS YET TO FINISH. I HOPE TO FLARE OF THIS MONTH AND DRIVE ON WOOD IN SEPTEMBER ? ( WHERE HAVE I HEARD THAT BEFORE ? LOL )

FINDING GOOD HELP IS HARD SOMETIMES, THESE BOY.S WORK FOR CHICKEN NUGGETS. LOL. THREE GRANDSONS PAINTING GASIFIER TRUCK . AUSTIN, ADAM , & ANDERSON ORRELL

David
Now those are memories that will be worth recalling the rest of your life… great to see your progress and hope to get back at mine soon. I can’t wait to see that smile on your face when you fire it up.

John

8 -11 -12 PROGRESS, WORKING ON MOUNTING THE FLARE OFF BLOWER AND STRAW FILTER. I AM PRIMING AND PAINTING THE PLUMBING, WILL POST PHOTO,S OF THAT LATER

PAINTED PLUMBING, I WAS WATCHING A VIDEO ON YOU-TUBE AND DISCOVERED THAT I CAN GET HIGH TEMPETURE RADIATOR HOSE GOOD TO 500 DEGREES, SO THAT IS WHAT I WILL USE TO CONNECT THE HARD PLUMBING FROM ONE THING TO ANOTHER. ( SEE THE GAP BETWEEN THE COOLING RACK PLUMBING AND THE BLOWER PLUMBING, IT WILL TAKE 8 INCHES OF HIGH -TEMP HOSE ) THE BARREL YOU SEE IS THE STRAW FILTER, I CUT A 3 INCH HOLE IN THE BED AND THE THREE INCH DRAIN PIPE I HAVE WELDED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL FITS SNUGGLY THRU THE HOLE , I THEN SCREWED A 3 INCH UNION ON THE DRAIN PIPE UNDER THE BED SO THE FILTER IS NOW ANCHORED DOWN SOLID , I WILL WELD THE UNION TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR LATER.

Looing good David, we may be running close on our builds but you are way ahead because this is not your rodeo with woodgas. I still have to learn ALL the 75% side of running one of these units.

Dave and whoever,
Where to put the blower and a flare off stack is something I am trying to decide right now. On one hand right after cooler would give you a better sense of how well your gasifier is performing, (provided you had an ample blower for proper pull) You would be able to tell just how pure the gas is, tar free, etc. On the other hand after the filter really cleans the gas up right? So what is the best sense of where to put it? Looking good Dave. What do you think the GVW is going to be on that beast when you get it done. May have to jump up a lic. plate class! Is it going to be considered a commercial vehicle? If so the DOT paper work for you numbers ought to be interesting when you have to classifiy what your transporting.
David S.

HEY DAVID S. , I AM HOPING TO USE THIS TRUCK TO PULL TRAILERS, IN OHIO I HAVE SEVERAL TRUCKS THAT ARE LICENSED COMMERCIAL, ALL UNDER 26,000 LB GVW . THEY DO NOT HAVE A PUCO NUMBER, THEY GIVE US NO PROBLEM IF WE STAY UNDER THAT, AND I DO NOT HAVE A CDL DRIVERS LICENSE. BUT FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS I WILL PROBABLY , JUST DRIVE IT AROUND TILL I WORK OUT THE KINKS AND LEARN HOW TO OPERATE IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO PUT THE FLARE BEFORE THE FILTER , TO TRY TO KEEP THE DIRTY START UP GAS OUT OF THE FILTER SO IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE CLEANED AS OFTEN ?

Hi David,

Put the flare before filtering if you want to see what the gas really looks like. Most systems flare pre-filter.

Wayne almost never flares his gas. He knows its clean. On the occasions he does want to flare (showing off to folks), he pops the caps off his cooler posts and flares from there. A blower pushing into the gasifier will make this possible.

Hi Dave, Your unit is looking really professional. Can you share some info about your fan, it looks heavy duty.
Pepe

GOOD MORNING " PEPE " , I HAVE HAS THIS BLOWER FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, WHEN I BOUGHT IT ON E-BAY IT DID NOT HAVE A MOTOR, BUT IT IS ALL HEAVY DUTY ALUMINUM INCLUDING THE BLADE , AND IT WAS CHEAP 35.00 IF I REMEMBER CORECTLY ? I GOT ON E-BAY RECENTLY , AND FOUND A NEW 12 VOLT DC PERMANENT MAGNET MOTOR, IT IS ONLY 1750 RPM. AND IT FIT PERFECT. I CLEANED UP THE HOUSING AND PAINTED IT, I ALSO HAD TO BUILD A DIFFRENT BASE FOR IT BECAUSE THE ONE THAT CAME WITH IT WAS NOT WHAT I NEEDED. I HAVE RAN IT SEVERAL TIMES TESTING IT OUT, IT DOES NOT BLOW SUPER STRONG, ( PROBABLY WOULD NEED A 3500 RPM MOTOR TO DO THAT ? ) BUT THIS BLOWER IS FOR FLARE OFF ONLY SO I THINK IT WILL BE GOOD FOR THAT.

8-15-12 NOT ENOUGH ROOM UNDER THE HOOD FOR THE FINAL FILTER, WILL NEED TO LOCATE IT BACK ON THE BED ? .

Hi Dave,

Looks like you are going to have a very busy engine compartment. Have you started the gasser installation? Your progress is looking good!!

Peter

Hey DaveO
I’d pass on the venturi scrubber idea. These are a wet process. You wan the fuel gas as dry as possible at this point in the system.
You’d have to add a pump then to circulate the wash water. On a dynamic moving vehicle system versus a stationary system wash/condensate liquid sloshing can momentarily block fuel gas flow. You’all get cold enough long enough in the winter there that with freezing there you will have added another freezing flow point to have to futz with.
Be sure an take a page from Mr Wayne and start your flaring/buring-in/settling-in in the hearth system now while you are doing the other final system stuff.
You do not need final filtering and engine controls to do this - just a battery and your blower.

8 - 18 - 12 week end warrior in the shop. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY OLD CYCLONE, CONVERTING IT INTO A FINAL FILTER, GOT IT ABOUT 1/2 DONE. IT WILL BE A SMALL VENTURI SCRUBBER , WASHING THE WOOD GAS WITH A PETROLEUM LIQUID . THE WOOD GAS WILL ENTER FROM THE BOTTOM AND GO UP THRU A SPRAY OF LIQUID, I HAD ORIGINALY PLANNED ON MOUNTING IT UNDER THE HOOD, BUT IT WILL NOT FIT, SO I THINK I WILL MOUNT THE BOTTON HALF UNDER THE BED AND THE TOP HALF INSIDE THE CHIP HOLDING BOX THAT I HAVE PLANNED TO BE MOUNTED ON THE BED BEHIND THE STRAW FILTER ???
