I can’t remember who had it maybe @JO_Olsson but someone had photos and a video of a very simple rebark cutter here basically two side plates that held the cutters and a chain drive. It really didn’t look that bad to build. I tried to search for it earlier but as someone often tells me I slept since I saw it so I couldn’t find it again.
I checked that disc brake again. It is in fact 1/8" thick with an 8" wide disc. I have exactly 3" from the hub to the edge of the disc so with the right angle I could theoretically do up to a 3" diameter piece of wood. It got warped helping a friend remove it from his go kart so it’s kaput for reuse but I can upcycle it.
I should have some 1" keyed shaft laying around somewheres. @don_mannes did you have a template for your disk chunker? What’s the angle for the spiral cut?
I tried to use Wayne’s reasoning for the way he made his chunker, which was to make it so it stays open longer before it closes. Makes it easier to feed that way. I sort of just winged it and it worked.
I guess what I’ll do is cut down the really warped part and then do a smooth profile to the other half from hub to edge. I’ll probably make an attempt to set it up for gravity feed and an adjustable stopper for sizing. I’ve got a lonely 3hp engine that will fit a gear reduction plate to make up some more torque.
I also have a good length of that very thick 6" tubing/pipe that Steve Bowman gave me. Could maybe try to make a jr version of a drum chunker. That stuff is about 1/4" wall.
Speaking of the Campfire wildfire tragedy, my twin brother lives in California and picked up this '34 Ford cab. The truck was completely restored but was caught in the wildfire resulting in a total loss. Limbs dented in the cab, and who knows how bad the rest of it was since it was parted out. I’m trying to talk him into a world war era woodgas rig. I think I have him locked in haha. But it’ll be a long ways off as you can see.
What a beauty! Something about that patina I love it
Ordered a 200A peak bridge rectifier and some heat sink paste for my HF125 welder. Gonna change it from an AC to a DCEN wire welder to clean it up. I already have some old heat sinks from computers and TVs and a plethora of small fans I can put in. That on top of replacing the ground clamp with a better one it should really help reduce splatter.
It is 05:00 am. I got up at 04:00. Dana and I are going fishing on the Entiat River for king summer run salmon. This is the 4 and 7 year run coming back to the hatchery. The run will be the largest numbers they have ever seen. 6 fish daily limit. The last times I fished it I caught some fish I could not land. I fish with 20 lb. Leader and they broke off. They were 20 lbs. Plus range. Dana has never fished for these fish before, I hope she hooks up on a few and lands them. Using a big slip bobber and Salmon role cured eggs.
The deep part of the river is only 4 feet deep where we fish, and only 20 feet wide across.
Bob
Bob, one of these to go with some of your salmon and the meal is complete.
I was prepping my lunch box and dug out one stand. One single potato was 350 g (0.76 pound). Time to fill the root cellar up.
You do really well to get them that big without hollow hearts. Typically here if they get big like that they become pig food.
Dan,
They are still solid, but I think I better hurry up harvesting, since I’m the only pig in our neighbourhood
Seeing how I only have flux core and mild steel stuff at that, how catastrophic would it be to weld Stainless to mild steel using mild wire? It would be a gutter.
I have done it on numerous ocasions
It is so hot, I almost can’t breath. No pun intended! I hope fall gets here soon.
Come on Bob how was the fishing!!??
Nice potatoes JO, Dana hooked up on two Salmon both were jacks. Landed one. Me zero hook ups. I did manage to loose some gear to some big rock fish snags. She has out fished me again and this was her first time fishing salmon on the river.
My friend Randy caught two and landed landed one, it close to a 20 pound female salmon. He has caught 36 salmon this year on the Icicle River, Columbia River, and now the Entiat River. He likes to fish a lot.
This river is normally a spring run river. But some how the summer Salmon were introduced by mistake by 5he fisheries, oops
They are running up it too. They consider these salmon invasive on the spring run. So you can keep wild and hatchery fish that are running right now to the salmon hatchery.

One of our syrups is gaining popularity this summer. I came up with this idea and has become a big hit. It tastes like a Christmas wreath in maple syrup.
I take pure maple syrup and steep balsam fir and Spruce tips in the hot syrup.
The tips have 4 to 5 times the vitamin C than a lime or lemon. This syrup is actually good for a person.
My father came down from Ohio to visit. We had a small fire planned for the night but my wife had a hell of a time getting her fire pit going. So I pulled out char from the gasifer to help her. Then after she went inside for the night I scooped up the coals and used them to light the gasifer. The circle of life! My dad was so excited to witness this big stainless contraption in action for the first time in person.
Continuing to spread the good word of gasification
We sat Infront of the flair longer than the fire pit. Enjoying that flame and the clack of the check valve.
Now he is asking me if I can build a unit for his zero turn mower. I feel like an evangelist haha!
Bill did you freeze the elderberries last year to make it easier to get them off the stem? I picked 2 Five gallon buckets of them over the weekend. I plan on making syrup with them. Any tips would be appreciated.
