I cannot catch a break. My shop almost burned down today. Someone stored an open cell roll up mattress near my welding area and I didn’t see it. Fire extinguisher was borrowed by uncle and never replaced. Had to use my sandals in my hand to put it out. Was like napalm. 2nd degree burns all over my hands. It’s excruciatingly painful. Skin is wrapped up with ointment right now and I will go see my doctor tomorrow. Thank God my mom has a doctorate in Nursing. I feel like Job.
Wow, Cody I will praying for you that your burns will heal.
Bob
I’m buying new fire extinguishers as soon as my next paycheck this week comes in.
Also refill the other one if you can. Then you will have one on you next gasifer build. Also we carry gallon jugs of water on board.
Bob
Cody, find a product called Burn and Wound Cream. It’s an Amish-made paste product that is the world’s best burn treatment. I think you may only be able to buy it in an Amish or Mennonite run store. Or a website called Nature’s Warehouse.
No joke. I don’t promote miracle products, because they never really work, but this stuff is amazing.
Actually, I just found some on Amazon…PM your address and I’ll send you some. You won’t need a doctor.
Also, thanks for reminding me, we need to get our fire fighting gear more arranged and set up. Been meaning to do so for a long time. Picked up a big load of IBC tanks in Atlanta a while back. Was going to park them in the woods out back, but decided to park them behind some buildings and collect rainwater so we have large volume of water reserves for fighting fires, etc.
Also, several years ago I bought 14 sets of breathing aparatus and tanks, complete sets. Put them in a barn and forgot about them. I bought them just for the boxes they were in, but turns out they were all still functional and fully charged with breathing air. someone cleaned out a fire dept. when they upgraded I guess. I got them all for $50 I think.
We have been using them for times when we need to breath clean air in a dirty place, and refilling them at the Rescue Squad House.
But, we’ve also been planning on setting up a couple of our own little fire departments in a couple different locations on the property in case we have a fire. Can’t beat the response time that way…if you’re already here. Just suit up, start the pump and go to work.
Hey, I’ve got a project like that too.
I think the best part about being relatively straight edged is that when you really do need pain medication, you don’t need much. Mom handed a 5mg of hydrocodone and I made her cut it in half. I made the right call. Tylenol wasn’t cutting it but the 2.5mg of that pain medicine will let me sleep tonight. It’s always the first day that feels the worst. I’ve scalded the bejesus out of my foot one time managed to splash boiling hot water into my shoe once and the whole top became one big blister.
I typically have rotten luck right before some kind of windfall. Maybe I gotta have a TON of bad luck for what I’m thinking of, I entered the Wheels Through Time raffle for their '48 Panhead.
I have heard that things happen in three, I hope and pray that was the third one for you and you can move on Now. Or you just have things happen in twos.
Bob
I think this was the third one. Yesterday I was called by State Farm and told they won’t cover the hit and run, I’d call that pretty devastating for me.
That’s for sure. When you use it a lot or for a long time, it loses it’s power. Had to take that crap for 2 years with my back. So glad to be free from it and the pain. Regular use also “numbs the soul” in my opinion. Also, it’s hard to get. Doctors clamping down on it with the national drug problem we have with opioids. Then you have to “stretch it” with other substances, etc. all around better to stay far away from it if you can manage it at all.
Burns hurt, a lot. I can handle broken bones, smashed fingers, busted knuckles, getting shot, stabbed, beaten, whatever,…but I hate bad burns…and tooth aches…and cold fingers.
Cody, don’t believe the superstitious stuff. Hope you win the raffle, but it won’t have anything to do with luck.
that stinks.
I would call State Farm and tale them you have made it known on a international web site and it will cost them a lot more then what they did not pay you for your accident of a hit and run. Let them know they will lose in the end, If a insurances company burns me I will go to another. Farmers insurance have been 40 years good to me. I only have had one problem with them bocking on a incident to pay. I told them if they did not pay all my family and friends and people I would meet would hear about it. They gladly paid. Now I tale this positive story about Farms Ins. They are making monies off of me and not losing monies.
The consumers have all the power if they will use it. It is no brag just facts. If the people of this world would just figure it out and demand good well built products it would change this world we live in.
If it is junk tale the truth it is a piece of junk and don’t buy it. I still look for good USA made things, it hard to find, and if it is junk I will not buy it. Even if it USA made. With what that has happened these passed years the USA is trying to make a industry come back. Buy USA if it is a good product only.
Bob
Most aches and pains I just combine tylenol and advil and it goes away after 30 minutes. For this one I needed lidocaine for immediate relief and the hydrocodone to let me sleep. I should be relatively not in pain tomorrow especially since we have the worst blisters covered up and not exposed to the air, and I kept my hands under water for a few hours while waiting on mom to get back from the store. The most annoying part of all of this will be waiting for the blisters to heal up because as a detailer, I’m exposed to some gnarly chemicals. The soap will dry my skin up even on a good day. I’ll have to take extended medical leave but I pay for such an occasion so I won’t see a lapse in paychecks luckily.
Edit: No pain this morning.
Cody,
Sorry to hear of your continuing troubles. Will be praying for manageable pain, speedy recovery, and encouragement for you.
Not much pain today. The palms of my hands feel like work gloves.
My hands are always in car soap so I have a time developing calluses. I guess the fire tanned my hide some. Managed to scrub most of the plastic stuck to my skin. As long as I don’t touch the blisters it doesn’t hurt.
Cody I highly recommend keeping an aloe plant around for burns the juice from their leaves will make a big difference in how quickly your skin heals. I keep one because I get sun burns easy.
Also be careful with those automotive cleaning products. There are some nasty chemicals in them back in the 90s when MEK was banned from industry without massive paperwork and reasoning behind why you needed it most companies would still allow you to use anything you could buy at a public store over the counter to so speak. One of the industrial projects I was working on involved etching ceramic with a laser and I was talking to the customer about how hard it was to get a clean enough surface now that we where using alcohol and acetone not MEK. He told me that is easy we just buy tire cleaner at the automotive parts store. Because you guessed it MEK is the cleaner in it. No idea if it is still is but when I finished that conversation being a young man at the time who cleaned his sports car every week I went home looked at the list of chemicals I was using and decided my car could be a little dirty I wanted to live a long life driving it.
I have to worry about hydrofluoric acid and lye more than MEK. Can’t let any chemicals touch raw skin or a cut.
Our old manager lost a fingernail to the acid when he got some on an injured cuticle. Got infected and the nail lifted off. Eugh.
I like to turn away from Covid topics, in person or online, l didnt even open any related threads or notifications here to read or coment. I got my own opininon on the topic and will for now keep it to my self but this is a rare exception l will make and post something Covid related
Says, gas station is closed unless you can proove you are tested, vaxed or have been infected lately. Goverment started playing ugly in the vaxination campain. So no dino juice for quite a lot of people, even those who want to get a shot but hadnt yet had the chance.
I only show this for everyone to think about what we do here. Most of us woodgasers admit that woodgas is just a hobby for them and the threat of a SHTF scenario is unrealistic. Well guess what. Its not. It can literaly happen over night as it did here. And we here on this site know how to deal with it. Knolidge is power!
The like button is not enough, I need a love button
Ha! You are correct Kristijan that the TOP-DOWN deciders can rock your personal world overnight. No need for a cataclysmic natural occurring event. A War. An invasion.
I had a side-bar displayed come-on for a Norwegian University students break trough device that was allowing him 600 to 1500 miles travel range on his unspecified vehicle tanks of gasoline. Something about a super capacitor and processor plugged into the electrical system. And he developed this to be able to travel back and forth to his girlfriend.
I-m-p-o-s-s-b-l-e. The improvement gains - not the girlfriend.
But what it pointed out was that a primary oil producing country like Norway has raised the everyman’s consumer’s price for a US equivalent gallon for motor fuel to +$15. a gallon.
“They” the Powers-That-Be there really, really want to force full electric vehicle changing over as soon as possible. Their money flowing North Sea oil income is very finite.
There is an old English wisdom that says, “What the Lord-of-the-Land: give’s. He can then take away with the stoke of a pen.” Permissions to farm and hunt. Permission to only rent. And every activity taxed.
And that is why many, many peoples came to the U.S and still do. Freedom from Lords.
Rural, here we say, “Better to have to later, m-a-y-b-e, beg for forgiveness. Than ever to ask for permission.”
Ha! And I did not feed into any “C” talking.
I do pity the Australians and New Zealand’ers, too.
