For me the scrapyard is just a loss. Scrap has to leave the shop worked into a product, not brought away as scrap. Had bad luck with that this year, scrap was already going down and when I bought it price was at the highest. Just bought 8 ton plates, fixed price, to be delivered in september. I dont know if its ok, we will see. I have a feeling shtf. Luckily most of the time I am wrong, and prices will go up again after the holidays.
I know in places like New Jersey they have shut down schools for it being too hot outside. Maybe they use less Air Conditioning than we do, or it could be humidity affecting air quality. We have an index advisory when it is hot and humid to warn people with asthma.
Canāt keep a good man down! The sadness of so many people that would panic, haul it around trying to find someone to fix it, find out parts are weeks away and go run out with the credit card and buy a replacementā¦ Mr Hank Jr said it well āA country boy can surviveā
I can not think of a single person that had Air Conditioning growing up.
I live in a climatic region not much different than you Jan.
Now I have AC in my home and have had it for the past 20 years.
This is a cool La Ninia summer,
Its rained frequently enough and its cool enough at night to enjoy open windows.
But this 3rd cool summer in a row still needs AC, the water table has dropped around my home and my grass burns in the sun.
Next year might see a return of the Hot summer and I do not relish the idea temperatures int he 35+ range.
Also want to add its not cold enough.
Even with that cold weather pattern hanging on the past three years its not cold enough in winter to kill the ticks and invasive plants ect that are moving north.
Large mouth bass are a warm water fish not native to my area and yet here they are eating the trout.
Just one more indication of the strange summers last decade and looking forward.
Speaking of bass, hereās one my friend Joshua just caught in my pond today. He thought it was a turtle at first from how much it fought him. That fish looks all of 5 pounds maybe more. He put it back in the water.
Me neither Wallace. Nowdays people with air-to-air heat pumps may cool their houses for a week or two in summer, but most of the time not needed. I still donāt know anyone with a proper AC. Summer temps usually hover around 20-25C here.
We do have the same problems with tics and invasive plants for the past 10-20 years, but due to milder winters.
Hard to say from a side profile, but a solid 4-4.5 I would guess. Shows you have good growth in that pond if they arenāt stunted 1-2lb fish. My go to bass lake a few miles down the road called rapjohn lake is overfilled with stunted bass. Think biggest one I have caught in the six years I have fished it was maybe 2lbs. And a normal day is 15-20 fish
If I had AC in my house I would have to hire a couple of folks six days a week in the summer .
Two big guys to kick me out of the house each morning into the 105 temps to do my work
Back in the water, 5 pounds of fish around hear might be 30 bucks.I need too find a good fishing place around here, any kind of meat is outrages prices these days.
There aint no way i could handle 105 and humid, with no ac, I would rather snow board all summer.
Back in the 90ās we would take a trip to Mt. Hood in Oregon for Snowboard TD training. This was in October before the ski / snowboard areas were open. But they were open at Timberline Lodge. The 2 highest lifts going up the Palmer Glaicer. The USA Ski team trained there for years. What fun that was, now that big Glaicer is so small now a 1/3 of itās size back then. On good snow years you could ride back to the lodge almost. Those days are gone. But the memories last forever.
Bob
I have only skied one ski hills lodge, a coulple years/ though i really enjoyed it, my step brother, got me too try skiing back in my teens/ more like the kind of weather us northern folks got used too, I went to florida back in 1984 in the first of may-- it was 100 degress and humid as heck/ no ac in my truck either, I sleep in my truck for two weeks, used beach showers.it felt good on my way back too michigan, like free AC ohio and then michigan was cooler.
Real life experience about the earth warming up
But no one can take away your memories. Mine are in Solden Austria. Beautiful glacier and one of the longest pistes. And apres-ski, my o my. You dont want to hear those stories. France has better mountains for ski-ing, but apres-ski sucks there.
I canāt complain about the weather this year. A little dry. We have only had a couple days up in the 80ās F. Mostly 70ās. It helps to be sandwiched between cool bodies of water. Deer flies are not as bad as usual and the ticks have dropped off quite a bit. We are in the dog days now. My dog thinks that means she gets extra treats.
Well it doesnāt look to me like that rattle was very hungry, thatās a THICK one! Donāt think he missed many meals
No. I donāt like that. Gives me the heebie jeebies. Throw it in the hopper and see how many miles you can get out of it. I guess the skin has some value.
Snake tastes like chicken.
Itās just a free range bone-in sausage really.
When I was in college I knew an Indian fellow with a trap line
He would cook a lot of things in felt squeamish about
Bob cat was one I tried
But never a snake
Just seems wrong to eat thing without legs
