Life goes on - Summer 2023

Instead of all the greenies getting upset with folks like us who burn wood, they should be thanking us. When I create charcoal for my gasifier, I invariably dump a small portion on the ground. In addition, I create a lot of biochar which gets spread on my garden. Even my woodstove creates a little charcoal. All this charcoal sequesters that evil CO2 for hundreds of years. If the trees that went into making that charcoal died and rotted instead, everything would have gone into CO2.

The greenies don’t understand this as they try to get rid of every last molecule of CO2 that makes up 0.04% of our atmosphere. I just wonder what they are going to do when they succeed & all plant life dies, and they can’t get any more soyburgers.

Here is the explanation:

They basically are trying to keep people from stacking up trash in a big pile and burning it once or twice a year. I know more then one person that did that.

I got a visit from the neighbor who was fire dept person when I was making char in my burner barrel retort and making a bunch of smoke. It is a closed container so it doesn’t fall under the open fire regulations. However, I do make sure it dries out more before running it now. He wasn’t just being a nosey neighbor, he busted some other neighbors.

Actually feels like it sometimes.

I finished cutting/splitting/stacking next winter’s 7-8 cords the other week. Spring is usually the best drying weather here. Old saying says you should finish before Easter and your firewood is dry by Midsummer. After Midsummer humidity rises and there’s morning dew and afternoon showers.

The reverse here PNW wet-side J.O.
Winter and any early Spring made up wood out in “drying” stack will accumulate more raining wet. Can go from a 40-45% moisture live cut up to 60% by weight.
Real woods drying here is beginning of July through September to October, low humidity winds blowing drought weeks.
Even 50% saps up wood will dry down faster than 60% months rain-soaked wood.

Grrr. Mediterranean’s bragging again about their climates.
Here USA/Canada, it is the Californians, Arizonians bragging. :smirk_cat: :stuck_out_tongue: :kissing_heart:

O.K. We northerners get to enjoy half a year of wonderful, glorious snow. And get really, really good at winter sports. Actually appreciate summer, sunning days never assuming these are a normal. We become half-glass-full, more appreciative. :kissing_smiling_eyes:
The poor Dutch have been having to go to Switzerland for their winter skating now, I read. :pensive:

Looks like my backyard! My area of North Carolina shares the climate of Osaka Japan, some say Northern Turkey.

I love the warm highland climate.

I try to love our marine climate. I think the best for living in, almost the same all year round. Sometimes a little to much rain.

Weather is a little cold now with clouds now and then. Planning to make my connection 25a instead of 50a. Max power is 18 kW then. Normally the installed power is right at the max 25 a connection. With the cold weather now there are peaks to 22 kW, no way this is going to work :grinning:. Free energy, I love it, even if it is to much :grinning:

Got a new air compressor since my jumbo tank has a big crack, and my little 8 gallon compressor was wore out when I got it for free. It’s been a trooper though, powering my plasma cutter.

20 gallon harbor freight oiled compressor. I just can’t get behind the oil-less compressors plus they cost more. I’ll withstand the noise. It’s quieter than the old 8 gallon compressor at least. If the motor goes kaput I’ll put a belt driven unit on the top I know those are quieter.

They actually cared enough to give you an included bottle of 30w non detergent oil and covered the thing in dummy stickers saying CHECK OIL BEFORE TURNING ON.
