I looked into an engine once using propane tanks on a big wheel. Not using charcoal. Just a well balanced ferris wheel type thing with propane tanks on the end of each spoke. spinning on a central bearing. If you heat the lower tank (warm water bath) and cool the top one (shade or cold running water etc). the propane will move up and want to fall back down when the lower tank is lighter. Several (6,8,10) tanks? I saw something in FLorida like that. I think it got a little over .5 horse power. Lots of investment for 1/2 hp. but I always wanted to try it.
Hey Wayne, did you get hit by any of these tornadoes? We just came in from the concrete domes. Had tornado pass over the house about 2 miles south. Watched it pass over. Peppered the roof.
I hear it touched down in Lake Wedowee. And then hopped over the town of Wedowee and is moving through Napolean as I write this. Closest one we’ve had sine 96.
Now waiting for the next part of the storm to come in. I think it will pass to the south about 20 miles. It’s throwing twisters too.
I remember that in the motherearth news. They called it a minto wheel.
Good morning Billy .
Thanks for asking .
The tornado was very close , winds were 60-80 mph the best I could estimate . We were in the storm pit looking out .
Some trees and barns down nearby but no injuries I know of.
I am glad you are safe. Whenever I hear talk about tornadoes and hurricanes I am glad I live up here with my snow. I was in a typhoon in Tiawan once it wasn’t something I would ever want to go through again.
Hi Dan,
I was on R&R in Taiwan for a week circa 1968. Had great weather, I think, ha, ha!
Beautiful beaches and women!
When were you there?
I was there for about 18 months 12 years ago now setting up some production lines. The great weather is a thing of the past now it is hot and smog from China these days. There are maybe 2 weeks a year where the wind reversed and the sky was clear blue the rest of the time was nasty.
But they do have beautiful women still and the kindest people I have ever met.
I agree. Everyone I met in Taiwan was so nice and polite.
Vietnamese people were also very nice, fun loving and cordial.
Except for the cong, of course.
When the kids knew you were leaving, they would say, " Seabee, you sky up
tomorrow? You souvenir me one picture?" Seabees number one, they would say!
I took no gore pics. As a Christian, my heart went out
to these folks and they would respond so positively to us Seabees! I often wonder
if they survived the onslaught when the north crossed the DMZ. This pic was taken
on route 9 near Cam Lo, 4 or 5 miles south of the DMZ. Route 9 went west to Laos
from route 1 (N & S) near the coast. The other Seabee is Chadburn, can’t recall first name.
Anyone care to see more pics like these?
Does anyone know if damnbeaver is one word or two?
Luckily my son drew the short straw and had to bust the damnbeaver dam out of the culvert pipe . .
You gotta admire a guy that throws himself into his work!
Spring time in NH it jumped all the way up to mid 50s today. I didn’t know what to do on such a hot sunny day. It sure was a welcome change after the long drag of winter and snowing everytime I turn around. Guess it will be time to plant a garden before you know it.
We have three 5 foot culverts that make a bridge on our creek that the beavers also seem to like trying to dam up. The water is still pretty darn cold, though, so I have been hesitating to deal with it, even with my waders on.
I don’t see waders on Tally, but he sure is gritting his teeth.
Sons are GREAT!
Pepe, we like all sorts of pics. Keep them comeing!
Pepe, I understand your emotion when you evoke this perote, I was 10 years old and my grandfather still alive, we watched TV together, at the time of the stops of the fighting in 1972, he expelled me everything from the vietnam war, and when I asked him about his war, his eyes sunk, it was only when the military archives could be consulted, that is to say in 2015, that I discovered his military run, on 820 parties of the 2 nd company of the regiment of 412 RI, they only returned 177, with there was a artillery and genius regiment on the Bozanti affair,
From this story, we keep in mind that we do not have to complain about his life, that he is subjected to a very difficult situation, he attaches a video of his travels that we do together, plus his captivity, being a survivor.

From what I understand, the propane - isobutane replacement gases are actually superior energy performers compared to the CFCs or HFCs. But chemical companies have lobbied for their products being standard. And their products are devilishly persistent environmental contaminants.
Better living through chemistry, they say…
Interesting rocket stove. Not sure about the lantern. Video at the bottom. If you follow the bread crumbs you will find other versions.
Yesterday me and wife went hiking on a nearby mountain, and we made a stop under some birch trees. Out of curiousity l pushed my knife tip in to one, and to much surprice, sap flew like crazy already! So, today, l taped most of our biger trees.
I drilled a 7mm hole in, hammer in a 8 mm alu pipe and a tube with a bag over it. When l was done with all 16 trees, l called my wife to show her where the taped trees are, so that she can collect the sap when l am at work. I took 4 1l bottles with me, just in case any sap had already collected. Well, l had to go inside for extra bottles and still there was some sap left over to be filled in plastic bags!
All this in less thain a hour! Bout 10l. Plus we drunk some fresh, straight from the tap-sack. My wife is currently boiling it down on the kichen stove. If l remember right one needs to be wery carefull of the temperature?
Love this time of year, nature starts to give sooo much goodyes
Yes you have to boil it slow or you burn the sugar it is really only a issue when you get close to the finished product if I remember correctly with maple syrup. But it was a very long time ago when I helped as a kid with some friends. Mostly I just lugged back the buckets and poured them into the tank when I was told to.
I have been wondering how the suger season is going here. It should be a good year i think we seem to be getting a lot of the right weather.
