Life goes on - Winter 2019

Makes sence.

A even faster way thugh, since the hole is alresy in there, is to fill it with some chemical that is both a fuel and a oxidiser and realy doesent want to exist

Very true. However, that is more expensive and more work. Of course, you may view that more as entertainment rather then work.

Well not much more work and expensive but probably unneaded for this kind of application. Big stumps are a nother thing thugh…

As for entertainment, l had to do so much of that stuff lately all the joy is gone…

Stumps are a big problem without a bulldozer. If they can be left about 5 years and goats used to kill the new growth they may be rotten enough to remove easily. Otherwise I suggest this:

Ive actually done that on a smaller scale pulling out lilac bushes. A huge mechanical advantage is obtained.

Once the roots are out of the ground, they can be converted to charcoal/biochar. Here is a photo of a very dead oak trunk that finally blew over. Very hard to cut with a chainsaw…and besides, it would ruin the chain. I piled some half rotted stumps and other junk wood over the root end, and here is the result.

After the pile burned down, and most of the flames were gone, it took about 50 gallons of water to put it out. There is a bucket at the far right of the photo for size comparison.
I’m going to burn the log in half next time, or at least try to burn it in half. I’ve been screening the charcoal and mixing it into compost and adding it to the raised bed where I hope to plant LaSoda Red Potatoes next week.

Took a walk in the woods today. The top photo is an old Model A Ford my grandmother got into an accident with back in the late 40s early 50s. There isn’t much left of it.
The bottom photo is an old Nash from the 30s I think that was my great grandfathers. It was stripped to just a shell when it was taken out in the woods but it is actually more solid than I thought.
I have known those where out back my entire life but it is amazing to me how much stuff you can find out on the woods because there was no town dump back a hundred years ago.
Anyway figured someone might enjoy seeing a couple of old snow covered car remains.

On tree stumps removal and human tooth removals the trick of it is to split them and then take out the split sections pulling center out towards the root spread.
Here even a modern D8 Caterpillar will have a splitting-beak installed on its rear to back-into split/divide the big stumps. Far less ground pressure then needed to front blade push-dig them out with more complete roots attached removals.

Ha! My Oral Surgeon used the same technique. My actual Dentist uses the whole-out pulling way. (I pay more for the surgeon when I can as less stress!!) Down six teeth in the last 3 years. Healing up from the latest one right now.

So K.L. use your kaboom bored in and plugged to split with instead of trying to whole stump launch!! (my old father-in-law’s way sent one up and then falling down through a house roof one time)

HOPEFULLY, this post won’t be controversial. I’m sure that most of you have heard of the corona virus. There are 2 naturopathic remedies that work well against viruses.

I hope that everyone is doing well.

When my Dad was a youngster, they would go to the hardware store to buy dynamite for removing stumps. You could buy it by the case. I do not recommend this for dental work!

My grandfather told about the neighbor showing him how to blow a stump that way. My grandfather asked him if he had to much dynamite under the stump and the neighbor said oh no just the right amount.
They got out of the area and watched the stump go about 50 feet into the air and come back down on the neighbor’s brand new car.
My grandfather said he didn’t realize how perfect the amount was because he couldn’t have hit the car if he had tried.

I saw some wood this weekend, I get a lot of shavings.
Do you think it can be fired if I fill the pan in half with firewood first and then shavings?

Spruce / pine is pretty dry to start with, it will burn. But every pound of extra water will exact a significant energy penalty.

I don’t know how it will work out for burning then but around here people with animals will pay you for those shavings they make good beeding.

The pole did not fall. the wire came lose again . Line man said the next time I have to fix this the pole is coming down . The lineman who came out got his truck stuck . He did a better job of connecting the wire then the last guy . I offer he ask my help to get his truck unstuck . Before I put chains on tires of my truck . I think to try with car . He said truck can only be pulled out by approved service or their truck may be damaged . I said "I don’t want to damage your truck so Ill leave you stuck " He had said that the wire between the transformer and my pole was not a utility wire . I do think this wire is much older then he is . So I call the power company and tell them their service line man is stuck in my yard and threatening to pull my pole down because he had not taken up the slack and after attaching line to my pole he was going to pull my pole down from the street . Because the wire coming from the transformer was not a utility wire or he just like doing every thing twice ? I spent a long time on the phone he spent a long time in my yard .
Finally another truck came and pulled him out . He took up the slack from the transformer . My pole is still standing , My power never went out . He did a good job .
