WELL it finally happened, someone finally got the coof in the house. Have to stay out of work until I test negative, going to get tested today.

Ha! Ha! A topic bump up so’s we can still find this topic.
Sun breaks today . . . finally after four days of constant drizzling. 1/10 inch an hour. But 24 hours, on top of 24 hours, then another two days means 8 inches (22cm?) rain.
Some streams flooded again.
And squishy, squishy.

Better than the freezing rain back far East.

I had to perform the joys of cooling system repair in the freezing cold today. All the slushy snow remnants turned into ice blocks today. Luckily the rain from yesterday flushed any slush off the roads.

Edit: and it’s snowing again because of course it is.

Steve, I have trouble wrapping my head around that. I find it too wet around here from time to time and we get only 20 inches a year.

Ha! Ha! Here PNW: the U.S. mainland; BC Canada; coastal Alaska the boasting (misery) starts at 80 inches annually and goes up to 300 inches annually.
Less than 80 inches a year and you are in a mountains ranges rain shadow.
Where the major cities are located. Portland Oregon. Seattle Washington. Vancouver BC Canada.

Now I was surprised to learn southern Peru was the same-same. Temperate zone wet, wet.

You have trouble with it. I live just on the east side of the Cascade Mountains and farther north from Steve. about 250 miles away as the crow flies. We get less rain than you do JO.
My Dana grew up where Steve lives. It is unbelievable how wet it is at times over there from what she has told me.
I like this side of the mountains.

My neighbor just down the hill has a ton of pickup trucks rotting in his yard. I need to give him a call and see if he’d be willing to sell any of them. One is I think a 2500 with the tool box bed. I think it’s an early 80s Chevy but I haven’t had an up close look at it. He has a 90s model S10 with a blown head gasket. Firebird in his barn and a Buick Grand National rotting in his driveway. The Firebird and GN were his son’s and he took them away because he was dealing drugs so that’s why they were parked.

Right now I’m interested in the tool box bed, if she runs on Guzzoline I’ll ask his price, take the bed off and add a WK with a flatbed put on.

You should see if you can weezle him out of that Grand National. Those are fat bucks now and people are restoring even the badly beaten ones.

He’s told me before that he doesn’t want to sell it until he at least gets it running, but I’d get first dibs. I honestly doubt he’ll ever get to fixing it and it’ll get inherited to one of his grandkids, HOPEFULLY the one I grew up with and not the other scumbag ones from his second marriage.

They’re basically like extended family, they’ve lived next to my mom’s side for over a hundred years now and we all go to the same church. He likes that I tinker with stuff and fix my own vehicles and has offered free scrap metal for me if I needed any.

Yeah. He’s not going to get that running if it’s been sitting. Those original GM turbos were crap by all reports and I don’t have any experience with those things to know if they can be bypassed. Still, do a search and check out what they are going for.

I wanted to mention something to you Cody. I spent 30 years as a Structural and ornimental Ironworker. Sometimes work would get a little scarce and sometimes guys just didn’t feel like climbing iron in zero windchills. I occasionally worked with a guy that spent all his down time buying used cars, detailing them, doing a basic tune up and then selling them. Made enough doing that on the side that I wondered why he even wanted to beat himself to death on iron. It was the pension. Of course he had to get a dealers license to avoid having to pay the DMV but that was it. Run an ad in the paper. People look at the interior all shined up, pop the hood and its all degreased and looking like new. Turn the key and starts right up. Sold. I remember you do auto detailing.

I’ve thought about doing that. Find some easy fixer-uppers and do some honest repairs, detail the interior and buff/wax the paint and sell it on Facebook. Too many guys around here including the Buy Here Pay Here dealerships just fill the radiator with goop, fixaflat in the tires and add an air freshener and fleece people with a 3000 dollar Hoopty.

I have always flipped cars and trucks on the side and made good money doing it. Have a pair of Honda civics at the shop right now, one for a headgasket one for cv shafts and a fender. Easy 1500$ sales all day long, and my buddy does the detail and window tint. The cars he details sell faster every time then rigs that all I do is wash and vacuum

A few months ago as a favor for the Service Manager of the dealership my dad made a crappy looking Saturn look respectable with just his buffing wheel. Manager thought it was going to need a new clearcoat but dad knew it was just a little sun baked and needed a fresh wax. Car went to the managers son as his first car, it was mechanically sound and engine rebuilt by him it just looked sorry on the outside. Buffed the headlights too, a lot of people try to use the DEET trick or spray clear coat if they buff it but DEET only softens the plastic and doesn’t remove the scratches, and spray clear eventually cracks and looks bad. A good wet sanding and maintenance buffing is all plastic headlights need to look good.
