My very amateur attempt at a cross/downdraft gasification type wood stove

So I had an old worn out wood stove I thought I’d give this a try on. I built a fuel hopper that sits on the back of the stove. I cut out a chunk at the back of the stove in which the flames/gases flow through. The grate which you can see is not only a grate it’s also the secondary air tubes, figured I would kill two birds with one stone. I also figured having some sort of a grate in the gas path may disrupt the flow and help it mix with the secondary air.

I’ll admit for the first little while after firing it was quite Smokey, but after it finally warmed up there’s so smoke at all. I need to make adjustments of course, but I’m thrilled the idea is actually working pretty close to how i thought it would in my head.
