Hi Rindert, good idea about the brochure, maybe borrow that
When i have attended some car exhibitions/old engine shows, i use to put a sign in the windshield that explains some.
Anyways itâs probably easier here in Sweden to explain, many have heard about woodgas cars, often from grandparents and like, and even seen them in old movies.
But itâs often hard to explain that this stuff works today also.
And yes, often have to explain that itâs a whole different thing from a steam engine.
Just had that conversation with a guy I was buying a barrel from, thinking I had a steam engine but he got the concept quick because he had heard of coal gasification years ago
Oh bummer. I can think of things more fun and better then that.
Bob
I was hauling a load of wood down to the chunker. You know if I was done with the gasifier by now this wouldnât have mattered could have just drove home
When possible, I cut an access hole, with a removable door.
Thatâs what I have always done. Why wouldnât it come like that from the factory?
If you had a carburetor you could have just drilled a hole in the hood and strapped a gas can to the hood. Been there, done that too.
Fill the washer bottle and stick the hose into the the float bowl, squirt as needed drove home that way in the Toyota twice
Road Kill. You winâŠ
Why? Because roadkill
Marcus, as soon as you showed up here on DOW I got the feeling you were the right guy for the job - I was right. I hope youâre still able to get some sleep.
Thanks JO, still sleeping but gasifier construction is digging into fishing time with the kids. The gasifier is coming along pretty well so far, hope to be onto the hopper by next week but i need to start on the bed asap. That will dictate where the hopper cooling tubes, drain pipe and gas outlet will go. That will be a big part of this build
What JO said .
Great video Marcus .
I keep watching and now will have to change my design on my build. Great video. I love how you can cut circles free hand with the plasma cutter. I have been watching how you hold your hands and pivot off your back side.
Bob
I just brace the back of my hand as an anchor and pivot slowly, it works pretty good for spots where I canât use the protractor because it will hit things. Now that I have built this stand off mount, I believe I could build it again off of the barrel completely that would allow the use of the protractor and the underside welded nuts I was talking about pretty easily. Need to get started on the clean out/access door, debating a angle iron style like @JocundJake uses for his hopper lid on a few builds. Looks like just 45° miter cuts to make the frame, then a duplicate for the door and a silicone seal in between?
I made the hatch out a couple inches away from the drop box so there could be some insulation to protect the seal and cool it down from the hot gases going by.
Bob
Great video Marcus, as always. We used a muffler on dads heat exchanger as wellâŠthey work great and the price was right. Freeâ:+1:
Canât beat that price for parts that will get you down the road on wood, wish I could find some 50 cal ammo cans for that price, and some tubing. Political climate and all I have no interest in sacrificing a full ammo can for this build and my local supplier canât get them. Kinda stopping me up on lower barrel completion
