looking good Matt R you are the off grid gasification power system man. How many hours that first machine you menchined run, and what is the try piller mean.Do you have any flyers for sales perpose,s of the details of your unit that is ready too sell, Thanks
At full bore, it should run a minimum of 7.5 hours pr hopper loading. This is equals, 38.6 kW/hours daily output. This should be more than enough to run a typical off grid home.
The Try pillar means it will have three pillars instead of four like the power units have. So it will be shaped in a triangle configuration.
Is the tri pillar going too have the GX690 Honda motor as well.
No that is the point it is just the gasifier system only. It will be much more compact as the pillars will be closer together. but the hopper will be expanded and this configuration will allow me to integrate the larger hopper capacity into the design.
This machine is going to break the mold.
Ok Thanks Matt Rider good luck with the buisness’ S Maybe i can take a trip up on wood sometime, check out some of your machines.
Right on, Im here, Im always here! lol
Ok Thanks matt i have too reset up another truck for wood gas asap.
So fresh of the Drafting board is the all new Fusion Gasifier module. There will be a light version and a Standard version. The standard will share the same automation package as the power gen modules.
This thing is going to be awesome!!
hi matt do you still sell that harbour freight gasifier kit. what is the reduction tube size and does the tube go all the way to the charcoal bed or just part way down. that was a extremely ingenious design also what is the out side diameter of the air tanks. as i have one. need to make sure it is right size.
what i really need to know what is the gas volume of the generater the BTU output.
No there just was not enough interest and I could not meet my target price point to produce it. However, I have designed a simpler version that we fully manufacture and you just put it together. But this is just an experimental gasifier, its for show and tell. Will it run an engine? I may for a very short time and for the preppers this maybe a perfect little gasifier as it will be very small and for running short charge cycles for batteries might be a great little machine for that.
Rule of thumb for gasification is 3 lbs pr kW, Im not bold enough to make ridiculous claims on consumption and gas output as this will never be static for any real world gasifier.
So for total net BTU output I would simply double the electrical output and this should get us somewhere close to the total gas btu output. For this little guy I think 1 kW will be middle range but this will also be the ideal range. It will most likely be capable of much more but then you pushing it to the limits and less viable as run times will be too short for practical use.
So you would be looking at 6820 btu net output. But bare in mind this is the net BTU and this is not how we generally rate a heating system, This same gasifier running at 1 kW electrical output is 45,000 BTU.
Yeah using an engine grade gasifier for heating is the last thing you want to do. This is very inefficient for heating. You lose 30% of your potential heat in process as the processes involved here are endothermic. The better the machine the more heat it will absorb in process. Then if you are not harnessing the heat from the gasifier itself this another 30% potential loss. Then when converting secondary engine combustion to the electrical output we have all the losses of an ICE that is only 25% (being nice) efficient and then additional mechanical losses before that energy emerges outside the generator head as usable power.
So the CNC machine is taking shape, it is ready for paint and then I can move on to installing the motor drives, electrical and the Z axis slide.
The tri pillar “Fusion Gasifier Module” I posted earlier is going to be part of my development plan. My plan is to make revision that will allow this unit to have a second on board combustion stage. I will also have a revision for a lower charcoal unit and steam reformer system built into it.
So basically it could then be installed just like a pellet stove and run in full combustion mode. But it will have a way to shut that internal second stage down and divert that gas outside to an outdoor power unit. More evolved controls will detect room temperature along with keeping an eye on battery storage charge levels. The controls can then manage mode based on these inputs. If room temps are at high temp parameters it can shuttle to power generator mode and then switch back when the room gets cold. The Charge state will always trump the room temp parameter and if the batteries are at low voltage cut off it will switch and run a full charge cycle. But even in a power gen mode the machine is still going to offer heat.
With this system the gasifier is always running and up to temp. When power is needed, starting the engine will be nearly instant.
The tricky part here, is how do i enter air for that second stage combustion with out blowing the thing up?? So yeah its going to look like an episode of mythbusters when I start testing this thing. Ill have a long cable to remotely shuttle open an air intake valve and igniter system.
Cue Adam Savage: “Stand back – we’re going to try science!”
matt are you just building your cnc now if so go to the mechmate.com site there is a mechmate forum there it has everything you need to know to build your unit. it was put up after i designed mine but it has every thing controller designs table patterns motor sizes wiring everything you need . take a look even gear ratios were to get parts… Oh kay i thought you were selling the kit i just wanted to buy the rings and the tube . i was going to try it. it looked very interesting i liked the idea of dropping pellets burning them letting the charcoal drop and burning. that what i was looking for was the ring kit. I think that is what you called it. I dont want it assembled it is easier to get it up here if it is parts to be assembled . as a prodject . for custums I have had to do this before . If you could sell me the ring kit even a old one that is still good. One you have laying around with the centre tube and grate i would be thankfull I could make one myself i just dont have the sizes
If you read through this whole thread you’ll see Matt is far beyond that level.
ya i see that but that is the machine i am interested in it is simple gives tar free gas. it would be used for my smelter and practicing with running small engines i received a down up gasifier pattern from another source but matts idea is best i have seen. also his carburater idea is ingenius i need to see how he keeps the pellet from falling all the way through to the bottom . I think i am starting to understand how he does it. I think he uses a stop plate like a twin fire. BUT!!
oh by the way i have a cnc but i have had medical problems and my abillity to hold things in my head is getting limited so it would be easier to get it from him already cut and i would only have to put it together. also it is winter up here and my machines dont work well at 10 or 20 below
