Already designed, plus like wood gas I learn the basics and then that it. Otherwise Im just copying other work.
I learn thru failure, AKA the hardway
I like the pulsejet notion. It should work. Apparently CN rail or CP developed a stationary pulse jet for rail shed heating back in the 50s. I think they ran on diesel, and were very practical devices.
The other way a person could go would be to follow the path of the âjam jarâ pulsejet developed in Switzerland ( I think), back in the 50s. The design ran on powdered coal. Sawdust or charcoal should give similar results. I seem to recall the device could be heard from 4 miles away.
No need for apologies! Overly expensive items as status symbols are just one of my pet peeves. I also am a fan of the above fun-pokers!

CHOFU Wood-fired Water Heater
Stainless Steel, Wood Fired
Includes Connecting Fittings For Tank
This Chofu model is a precision built wood-burning water heater designed specifically for hot tubs. It circulates water using the principal of thermosiphon (the pumping action created by rising hot water), eliminating the need for a circulating pump or electricity. This unique feature opens up a whole new range of possibilities for alternative hot tubs. Now you can have a basic soaking tub without pumps, chemicals, or high maintenance. With the Chofu heater you can retrofit an existing tub or put together a low-cost soaking tub, using a wooden tub or stock tank.
The stove body of the Chofu is made with high quality stainless steel, grade (316), so it can be used outside, without worry. Since the firebox is also made of stainless steel, it will withstand years of service without danger of burning-out. The smoke outlet on the Chofu features a unique vented collar that provides secondary combustion of unburned gases, for reducing smoke emissions and chimney sparks.
The Chofu utilizes a sophisticated heat exchange design for efficient water heating. The stainless steel stove body surrounding the firebox is a double-walled water-jacket with a 1-inch space between, making the entire firebox (except the front) a heat-transferring surface. Additional heat transfer takes place in a water-filled baffle plate that runs horizontally through the firebox. The baffle deflects the path of the fire, so it gives up more heat into the water jacket before going up the chimney.
The hot water for this system produces electric power from the ceramic cells. This is a new technology Im actively developing.
I donât know about what everyone has. I had a flip phone until this year when they would no longer sell me service for it because it was too old. And then I bought a better phone so it would be water proof and compatible with Tango Tango for our rescue squad radio communications and in case I end up in the water on a rescue mission. I thought I had to have gone crazy to pay $250 for a phone. Like you said Mike, I am about as cheap as they come,.
But I have to admit that I love the smart phone thing. I know everyone else already knows this, but it is kind of new to me. They do everything. Yesterday on the road I was able to get directions, email, post on DOW, call anyone, talk to one of our brothers in the church on the mission field in Zanzibar who has COVID19, communicate to see how the people in the project in Congo are fairing (no corona there yet, they say the roads in Congo are so bad that even germs canât travel), use a calculator, and a hundred other things.
I think itâs like everything else, every other tool that is. Some people have a âlegitimateâ reason for having a really expensive phone. For another person it may just be some kind of flashy pride or âlighting cigars with $100 billsâ. I generally believe there are better uses for oneâs money than just always buying the newest, best thing. But hey, to each his own.
Itâs all about world view I guess. The question can be posed as a political/sociological one, a moral/ethical one, a religious/spiritual one, etc⌠So it comes back to what is on top of a personâs priority list and through which set of glasses we see the world.
But I would expect that you are right. Most DOW-ers , at least that I have known, are as you describe them. Unless Bill has a $1500 phone hidden up there in the snow. Or Wayne secretly has one out in his school bus.
But hey if someone does, I just encourage them to use it to help others. Letâs all do that with whatever we have.
Sorry if weâre high-jacking your thread here Matt.
Seems how you can afford these luxuries. I propose you should also get a $1200.00 state fo the art gasifier.
matt they are all ready runing turbines with wood gas i cant recall the company right now but they built a combustion chamber because the particals are wearing the blades. they are useing low swirl burners also in northern england they set up a power plant using bio mass as the gas source.
Designed an expansion hopper option for this little guy. This will have to come at a bit higher cost as this is a bit to do. This should give the machine 4 to 5 times the run time verses the standard hopper.
Well if I survive the Apocalypse, Ill have plenty of wood chips for power and heat. This is the business behind me. Its ironic they started their business in the unit I took over.
And Matt, I was worried that you werenât enough of a salesman to keep the business going. LOL. Good Job. on everything, as usual
So cranked this guy out. This has the expanded hopper option. I need to make a flange set to couple the cyclone intake port to the reactor exhaust port yet. I had planned on using a simple hose coupling but the hose I have is too small. So low on budget I must compromise lol.
Next is to build the barrel drum bag filter and figure out how to connect it and I should be up and running in no time.
Also I built the AmTeck start up blower module. I plan to sell kits for this blower.
Nice gasifier! Interesting, we thought the lack of fuel was going to be the problem. Turned out to be health care and the lack of toilet paper. I mainly type on my Raspberry Pi desk top or my TracPhone cell phone. Mainly the Pi because I dislike the lack of control from smart phones. Oh, and my sneakers are from Walmart. I will admit that I own a professional chain saw. The sawmill was mainly for my Dad and I had to have an auction to help pay for it. Otherwise (for myself) I was planning on building another sawmill or just use chain saws with re-saws. This virus stuff is consuming a lot of time because of helping others. So, Iâm not on here much.
Stay safe.
Stay healthy.
First run on the new Flex Gasifier. I think its running a bit rich. Im going to add another ring to lean it out some. The barrel filter has been converted into a bag filter with a dual lined bag. It has the ceramic cloth on the interior side and then a felt layer and the outer.
I think Im learning something new. This blower is so powerful, that I think it is acting like a turbo compressor. This sudden switch from negative pressure to positive pressure I think it condensing the tars out. The flare actually looks great but there tar streakers flying out. So Ill just throw another filter at it, I think I need a good cooling stage and a two stage bag filter and it will be good to go. Right now it spitting moisture at the carb adapter with some tar in it. Not too bad a splash of gas will take care of that, but Ill have to add another filter to get that remaining moisture out.
Oh and yeah this is the blower with a throttle installed. It is only slightly open and running on a speed control at its lowest setting. I can open that up and crank that blower up all the way and shoot out a 4 foot flare out of that thingâŚ
I wasnât sure where better to put this, I thought it fits with earlier ideas kicked around.
