Interesting Leaf stuff:

" Here’s one for the “find an EV non-problem” file. Nissan cites research that says 60% of parents with children under age 2 lull their kids to sleep by taking them on a drive. The Japanese automaker claims that the “soothing sound frequencies of an internal combustion engine are the biggest contributor to a child falling asleep in the car.” In other words, a non-polluting EV like the Leaf won’t get the job done without piping in combustion noise."

Hey thanks for the lesson Henry. Very good stuff.

God must have blessed me way beyond what I deserved because we never once had to do anything to put any of our 4 children to sleep. Not sure why. I always was confused when friends talked about how hard it was to get one of them to sleep. My daughter would actually stand next to her crib for as long as it took for someone to come by and put her in it whenever she got tired. She would just stand there and wait quietly. ANd then when you put her in the crib, she would fall asleep silently. Although I do remember that Jesse would go to sleep much faster back when we drove horse and buggy.

No nothing ever like that . Once because of a street war we moved to the hills and lived in a tent , with a spare car battery . It was a very good time for us as a family .

Fresh out of design is a new hybrid machine. This can be configuired for pellet fuel, chip fuel or charcoal. It maybe able to even run in dual modes wood and charcoal at the same time. It is designed to be low cost. No automation, no filter, no blower no nothing!! lol just the gasifier. Im going to offer for introductory pricing of $800.00 but will go up to $1000.00 at a later time.

Paul this is the machine you will be getting. Your welcome!!

I can’t believe what I’m reading on this $1200.00 IPhone.

I think the typical driveonwood forum participant has a nice pair of shoes for church and other formal occasions, otherwise working shoes, soft and or hard-toe. I think the typical driveonwood forum contributor has nice clothes for church and other formal occasions, otherwise bluejeans, overalls, t-shirts, flannel / fleece shirts, Carhartts, hard hats, and high-vis gear. I think the typical driveonwood forum reader has a phone that works for them, and won’t normally replace it unless it is broken or made useless for some other reason. I don’t know anyone who lights their cigars with $100 bills. Having a $1200 cell phone is the equivalent, by my admittedly cheapskate attitude. Am I wrong? :upside_down_face:
Note to all: I think any modern USB webcam can be used for live video streaming. Or the camera built into most laptops. Or even your phone, if you want to. Doesn’t have to be HD!

The newer phones for some people are exactly what they need, such as the triple/double cameras for photography, a bigger battery, etc. but beyond the few features that may depend on getting the phone for a specific use, there is really no need for a phone almost the price of a car! The phones that cost that much now will most likely be much less in a couple years because of the new models being released.

Re: Nickel Iron batteries lifespan… oh yes.

I recently reconditioned some 75AH edison cells with date codes from the 1930s. All sat dry, with all electrolyte drained, for decades. With new electrolyte and some aggressive charging to recondition…they all now meet their original name plate capacity. I find that to be incredible…extremely robust batteries.

I just thought of a flow battery on a teeter tauter You charge it all day and discharge it at night![6775|669x500](upload://imL9IJFB4anKoL98yrTjzOu3ECm.jpeg)

a teeter-totter while teetertotter is a seesaw.

This is part of my plan for the thermo cells. Rather than heat the cells directly, heat the electrolyte and flow it thru the cells. An alternative concept is to use ceramic for the high temp structural material of the cells for direct heating. These cells will be solid state

So Ive kicking this idea around for years now and I finally got around to putting together a plan for it. I want to try and run a woodgas fueled jet driven turbine. First is to build a woodgas pulse jet to see if it will work. If not then I can use the same body with some modifications to adapt to my YZ21 turbo Ive had laying around for years to convert into a turbo jet. If I can proof this out then the next step is to build a high torque turbine that this can drive. It seems to me that if I can make a large turbine and take advantage of a larger diameter I could get a lot of torque making it more efficient. If I can get the pulse jet concept to work I can very easily add a water jacket for heat reclaim. So even if less efficient electric power is achieved I can make up for this in heat reclaim. Im absolutely fascinated by these jet engines and am dying to woodgas them.

The biggest advantage is the all the filtering efforts go away. No more gas chiller, no more media filter. Just a simple cyclone or two to get the ash out and go into this this hot so tar can not form or drop. If this is successful cost I think could be cut nearly 50% of what systems are now with all the added complexity.

Pictured is a 4.5 inch body valved pulse jet mated to a 24 inch turbine. If I could get even 1 kW on this first attempt Id be happy. I have the new gasifier I want to build and use on this as well. But I have a mountain of work, so we will see what happens.

Looks like I need to apologies for my odd humor. I was only trying to have some fun with words during our troubled times. I would like to blame it on Laugh-In, Bennie Hill and Red Green. I was just poking fun at our modern society.

Sorry! :clinking_glasses:

Look into the thermoacoustic Stirling developed by Sandia national laboratory for compressing natural gas. Sad that it appears to never have been implemented, could have saved a huge amount of fossil fuels from wells where it’s just been flared off. Might fit with your vision. The external geometry should tell the design, there are no moving parts, just an internal regenerator made of small diameter metal tubes.
