Say it’s a piece of a meteorite and sell it on E-Bay for a couple hundred. There’s someone out there that will buy it.

Ok I built a simple rotisary dryer today. No need to automate and over complicate it. Im actually pretty impressed with how fast its actually working use engine exhuast blowing on it. Its shedding the water weight pretty fast.

If you just put it in a 55 gallon barrel with holes in the bottom and cap the top, maybe remove a bung cover. it will dry in a couple of days just in the sun. But it is pretty cool to see that, and you already have the engine heat.

I recieved in the Super Handy Chipper today. I have to say at least with the little time I put on it today, it is a fantastic little machine. It does what its supposed to do and seems to do it well. Does it do what I want it to do? Time will tell. The chips are more uniform than the Harbor Frieght and it does not shoot out those large splinters. It makes a quite a bit of fines but is expected with any machine this small. I used a 1/4 screen and that got most of it out. May need to step it up to 1/2 inch.

There is room to shim the knifes out. If you are shearing bolts its probably because you dont have the right grade. You probably need a grade 8 or high bolt for this. I bet just an 1/8 shim will make a big difference. I also played around with sizing the wood on the splitter to a medium size and slowed the unit down some. That made a difference as well. Less fines produced along with larger chip size.

Yes!! Amazon just sent an email and the otherone is now ariving tommorow. But I dont think Im going to like that one as much as this one as this one has that higher shoot for the trash cans. That other is like bucket hight.

If the generator is running on gasoline or diesel, doesn’t the exhaust contain a lot of water? I suppose that, if it’s running on woodgas and there’s no hydrogen produced (only CO for combustion), then water vapor wouldn’t be an issue. ???

Yes but here it is just blowing by. Ive tried using direct exhaust into the fuel and it will make it wetter than it will dry it.

Ok Landworks drum chipper arrived, assembled and initial test.

I would say it does produce a beefier chip. They both really produce more a cube than a chip. This Drum chipper I think makes less smaller flakes than the other one so a little more yeild.

There is really no way that I can see that you could modify this one to make a larger chip. The knifes are out as far as they can go to clear a cutting block. However there is a surface area to the back side and perpendicular to the cutting edge. This surface is very shallow like maybe 1/2". If there is a way to mod this chipper it would be to remove this area and set it back farther. I guess I should have taken a few pictures of this.

In one of the photo I put a pile of the chips we buy next to what I chipped up with the Landworks.

How big of a split log are you throwing in there, 2x2?

Yes thats about what I try for. That is the sweet spot for both units.

If shimming the knifes work on the other one though. That is the chipper I would probably recommend. But just out of the box no mods I would then go with the drum chipper.

Ok yup the Landworks Drum chipper or other brands of this same chipper. Is the machine to get. I did attempt to modify the Handy and its a no go. I installed 1/8" shims and the knifes do not clear the bolt heads that are welded from inside that hold the load hopper on. The only thing I could try was to cut a reliefs in the plate behind the knife and it did not make any difference.

These pics are side by side comparison of the unscreaned chips from both units. The Landworks for sure produces better chips.

Thank you for testing and posting your results.

It looks like they didn’t spare any expense cutting costs on the disk chipper. Is the drum chipper similar?

They are made by the same company. They are built very well and simple. They are both great buys, but for us the drum unit is the one we want.

The other brands I think get them from the same manufacturer. The two I just bust are definatly made by the same manufacturer, but are different brands. They came in the same box, same hardware, same engine same contruction methods. You can see the hoppers in the pictures are made the same; they just have different mounting specific to the units.

Mine has a big ole cast iron wheel you mount the blades on that also acts as a flywheel. But it is a bit older and has a shredder as well.

Thats how the Harbor Frieght unit is built. It has a hammer mill on the opposite side and that makes them even worse. Those that have the shreder are difinatly a no go.

You are right, Matt. I had a shredder many years ago and it was useless as far as I was concerned for making woodgas fuel.

Yup if used as intended they actually work great! Not so great to make fuel with. lol

If you could try a industrial /farm hammer mill i bet that would make the right sort of shreds as long as you have at least a 1" grill in it maybe even 1.5 up to 2" would make good chips i bet .

That how the chips we buy are produced. They are not fed into a chipper. This thing they have is way beyond any chipper you can buy even at industrial level. That thing is fed with a front end loader it is a massive hammer mill. It produces those mountains you see in my videos in a day.
