I like mine. If I was prepping I would probably get the commercial greenworks or similar. They are 600 bucks and 3.4kw/65cc equivalent with only a half hour battery charge. Apparently comparable in the ballpark price and size to the ms391 or the husky 465, which is big enough to fell or buck if you have to. and quietly.
I use a chainsaw in the forest and a corded electric saw at home. Usually cuts about 35 cubic meters of wood for me, and the oldest son cuts about 20 cubic meters for himself every year, I’ve had this saw for 5-6 years now.
@Woodrunner Göran, do you think this shows as low values as I need if it works? ( 0.3 and 0.5%)
Hi Jan, that one will probably work, if it’s functional ofcourse.
A little to expensive i think, probably because it’s a “vintage piece of garage decoration”
I still need to try get one of my extras running, if i get it to work you could have it for free.
Only thing needed is time, and me remember it…
One thing I’m pretty sure about. If you are talking about using bow saws or even cross cut saws to fell trees and process them for fire wood then you are not 77 years old. I’m happy I can still pull the cord on a gas saw. Maybe this year I’ll get some pictures of the hills I have to get my wood from and the size of a 10 cord stack.
What Is It – Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) - Mansfield Energy.
You keep going in circles with this gasoline storage thing. It really isn’t hard to figure out. If the gasoline can evaporate it will cause problems. Store it in containers that can hold 10 to 15 pounds of pressure. Don’t let it evaporate, simple. Drain the stuff that will evaporate.
Use windshield washer fluid containers. They have airtight lids, and the one gallon size is easy for people with bad shoulders to carry. My local repair shops happily give me the empty packs of six one gallon jugs.
I have a bus full of gasoline and diesel in one and two gallon cans.
65cc is on the small side we considered that a “wittle” saw for our timber
I prefer a big displacement saw and a long bar so I can stand up and buck, trying to save my back for as many years as I can cause times arnt getting any easier as far as I can see over the horizon
Never heard of RVP before Bruce. How do you know you are maintaining the 15 psi? Are we talking about long term storage even with E-10. Inquiring minds want to know. I have mostly 2.5 and 5 gallon plastic cans. I cover the openings with plastic before I screw the caps back on. Sufficient? I think you once mentioned rejuvenating stored fuel by mixing it with new. Does this make the new mix partially depleted of it’s full potential energy?
How much is a cord?
1 cubic meter is about 1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard
A cord is 4 ft high, 4 ft wide and 8 foot long. Most people deal in face cords which are 16 inches wide, 4 foot wide and 8 foot long.
It’s about 3.6 cubic meters for a full Cord.
It’s gotta be air tight. The container will hiss outwards at you if you have it sealed properly. So, if you have 9psi over the liquid it won’t evaporate. It’s a lot of pressure, think about your radiator cap, or pressure canner. Right in there.
About the alcohol/gasoline mix…I don’t purchase that. My conjecture would be as long as it’s sealed and under pressure, it won’t pull in atmospheric water.
You got me thinking about this and I realized I have a shed full of gasoline I bought during April of 2020. I squirrel it away and just fill new containers.
Do youse put the WD 40 and Marvel Mystery Oil in your gasohol? Or do you just put in the paint thinner?
Stoddard solvent at Tractor Supply is the best bet.
Yup some of those trees are big. Most of ours are gone. For a SHTF situation, being quiet and not attracting unsolicited attention may be more important. Also, the electric ones don’t vibrate like gas ones do, so it is easier on your body.
They announced a larger 70cc/4.3kw in like 2021, demo’d it in 2023, but as far as I can tell it hasn’t hit the market. I am guessing the delay has something to do with the batteries.
Oh if we need to be quiet wood poachers figured that out long ago, a spigot attachment on the muffler a chunk of garden hose five gallon bucket of water and away you go
I mean. I didn’t know that.
Now, that you said something. i have heard about it. I would test it to make sure it actually works, and you remember it. There may be some nuances to it. I want you to have a plan that works for you. It isn’t about electrification of chainsaws, it is about finding solution that works for you.
Any idea what percentage of the paint thinner to put in per gallon? I have about 20 gallons stored right now of pure gas with stabil in it that is exactly a year old in 5 gallon cans with a piece of Glad food storage bag over vent hole and spout hole before screwing the caps back on. It runs my engines fine but I haven’t tried in in my saws yet. They will not run on untreated gas over a few months old normally. Weed wacker will for some reason. Non-ethanol is about 2 buck a gallon more and to get it you have to pay that price for the first gallon which will be about half E-10. I have decided it would be wiser to just buy the E-10 and try the Ethanol shield. My canner is rattling and hissing right now at 10 psi. Yes, That would be a lot of pressure for a can. Anyway thanks for the information. Long term fuel storage for chain saws is just about the only prepping mountain I have yet to climb.
Tom, I have good results using 1oz per gallon. That, in things with crud filled fuel systems like the tractors and the mowers.
Whoa! I thought you’d be one to know about rocket stoves. If memory serves you had one in a greenhouse? I’m trying to get to the point where I can confidently heat my garage with something like this. I got it blasting pretty good, but the brick arch cracked and lets little wisps of smoke out on start up.
Rindert
That’s pretty interesting Rindert. That much thermal mass would hold heat for long time. I’m curious about the smoke path with the flue exiting so low. I would be easy to fix cracked bricks with this stuff. I use it to seal the clean out doors on my wood heater for the house.

For all the Rust Belt users here on the forum, and haven’t seen this video yet. PB Blaster has a lanolin based undercoating that lasts up to 2 years. Doesn’t hurt any rubber components and doesn’t lock in any rust like a rubberized undercoat. Pressure washes off so you’re not handling a greasy mess changing parts.
Or you could just use motor oil mixed with mineral spirits, just don’t get it all on your skin.
