Herb…you gonna run it on 110 or 220?
110
Herb…it looks like it was previously wired for 110. Is there a cut wire coming out of the yellow wire nut and is it the P1 wire? If so it is probably one of the original line wires. If the three with out the wire nut are T2 T4 an T5 that will be your other incoming line wire. That should leave P2 T3 an T8 connected with the other wire nut
Herb , I can’t tell by the picture, does it have a starting capacitor? I think that may be the same motor we use on our drain machines. If you install an air bellow switch, (of which I can send to you) it can be foot operated. That way the only time the motor turns is when you step on it. It will also keep the electricity off the ground in case it is damp. Just a thought.
Yellow wire nut is on p1 wire and you are right on all the others, so do I run hot to the three wires w/o nut and ground the single wire with yellow nut? What about the three with red nut?
Hook one lead to the P1 , the other to the 3 without the wire nuts. The ground simply goes to the case of motor…usually inside the box where the wires exit the motor. Hope this helps.
Gary
Herb…the ones connected with the red wire nut need nothing done to them. They need to be connected as they are.
Good luck…LOL
I will give it the smoke test tomorrow !!!
Herb, That is a pretty simple wiring diagram that a brainiac like you can figure out. I’m just curious what the diameter of the shaft is ? 14.4 amps is nothing to sneeze at … I’d guess you do like I do and run a 100 foot cord :o) … It is nice you can switch rotation … If you are running it on an extension cord, consider running it on 240 instead of 120. I have a 100 foot 240 cord at the trailer to run my welder and air compressor. It is 14 gauge rated at 600V like most are … I dread that if I croak that some dumb ars will plug in an ordinary appliance to it and waste it … Are you in Iowa or Tenn. ??? At my place we had 3 inches of rain and then 2 inches of snow behind that, that hasn’t melted yet. It is 30 degrees at 9:30 PM … It’s very depressing. I had a tree blow part off and one limb went through the side window of my black truck so I had to put a piece of tin to get by. Thank God for aluminum tape … Then I had to cut up that tree and a couple of others. One landed on my phone junction to my office … pop pop crackle crackle … I run my buzz saw on 120V with a 14 gauge 100 foot cord. It runs sweet but I can’t remember if it is a 1 HP or 2 HP … It is sealed as it came out of a milk house from a Surge system …
Hope you are doing OK … My legs are getting stronger and I have very little pain tonight despite all the chain saw work and lifting … I ain’t what I used to be but I’m still here …
Stay well amigo,
Mike
We gain knowledge from what we have had the opportunity to work with and I haven’t had the opportunity to work with electricity very much (can barely spell it), I usually start connecting wires and hope it doesn’t start smoking. I didn’t want to take a chance with this motor so I thought I would tap into the knowledge and wisdom on this site and I’m glad I did, thanks, this is one of the many things I like about DOW, many people with many experiences and therefore much knowledge.
I’m using a short cord (12’) and the shaft size is 5/8", making a 1" diameter 4" long nurled surface pulley for it, that should give it a little more speed and a little more area to “bite” on the tire, it is slipping there a little now and wearing into the tire, want to remedy that before it blows out the tire like it did the first one.
I’m doing fine, they sent me home from Nashville Friday while they “evaluate my test results” probably go back in a couple of weeks, going to fly next time, hope my arms don’t get tired!!!.
Herb did you get a chance to try it yet?
You and Elvis look “up-set” there. A smile is a frown upside down?
Which one is elvis, the one on the right or left…LOL
I deleted that picture 3 or 4 times and reposted but couldn’t get it upright, finally said heck with it and just left it upside down,. still don’t know what I’m doing wrong!!! This new iphone does a lot of things I don’t understand!!!
Yeah Gary, wired it the way you said and it purrs like a little pussy cat!!! Looks like it’s going to make a good motor for the cow patty spliter. Thanks alot!!
Fixed the original… EDIT oh now I see Arvid’s post.
Looks like you and Elvis were “Head over heels”… http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/elvispresley/islippedistumbledifell.html
Glad I could help Herb.

While some of us are discussing fire tube longevity because of “lead foot Carl” (just kidding Carl) I thought it would be a good time for me to make a confession. Because I was planing on hanging my unit on the back of a Caddy my main focus was keeping it light and “footprint” small. I knew I wanted to follow Wayne’s design because it was proven and it worked. I looked around for 12" pipe but of course very heavy, I had some old 12" propane tanks, ended up doing the big no-no, I used them. The ones I had have a joint about every 6", one is enlarged and slipped over the other and factory welded. This gives it a double wall in that 3/4" area, I put my mozzels right above that for extra beef, other than that it’s only about 1/8" thick, 1/4 where it’s doubled.
I used the factory rounded in end to hold another factory round end that serves as restriction. For heat dissipation /preheat I used 12" spial culvert pipe, cut slits in it and welded those slits to tube.
Not saying this is the way to do it, just saying the WK design can be made very light and sill work!!
My whole unit only weighs 380 lbs and it has almost 2X’s the cooling and filtering.
I heard it said that for every problem there are at least 10 solutions, This is what worked for me!!! herb
Thanks for sharing AGAIN Herb … Put a new window in my black truck this morning that got knocked out by a flying log last weekend … Cost $63 from Dubuque. Maybe I won’t run over anyone backing out at McDonalds now. Wifey is gone for the weekend. I plan to go fishing later … I need to cut some chunks next … Mike
Yeah I figure I may as well bare all, maybe there’s someone out there that can be helped by it. Here’s another one.
I’ll never forget when I got the gasifier all mounted and let the Caddy down on my shop floor for the first time. Although the gasifier was as light as I could make it the back wheels hit the floor and the rear of the car kept going down, it finally stopped but the back bumper was only about 1" off the shop floor!!! I about filled my pants and had a heart attack all at the same time!!! I figured I had really messed up this time, I’m trying to hang way to much weight on the back of this car and it would never work.
The next day I went out and got those rubber spaces for coil springs, put those in, let it back down and this time it was about 4" off the floor. Knowing that wasn’t going to work I went back to the store and brought two more packs, put those in and now it was about level but gasifier was empty and as I got it running on wood and then started to drive around it started cutting those rubber spaces in half and they would fall out as I went down the road, pretty soon it was hanging down so low in the back I couldn’t drive it any more.
Ended up taking all of the rubber spaces out knowing that wasn’t going to work. Then I took a better look at the springs and couldn’t believe how small the coils were. These old Caddy’s don’t have much weight on the back axle, the engine, trans, batt and everything else are all up front, the engine sets cross ways up front, there is only a shell of a car behind the front wheels, therefore the small coils and the “air ride”.
Well to make a long story short I ordered a set of air bags from JC Whitey, they worked for a while but soon one of them developed a leak and the car was hanging way down on one side every time I wanted to go for a ride.
That’s when I started taking a good look at the “factory air ride” system that I had taken the fuse out of when I first bought the car because compressor would run all the time because of leaks in the system. Ended up cutting the lines back by the air shocks, put air fitting on them and that is the way it still is. They hold the rear of the car real nice, with all that weight up front I really don’t notice the weight from the gasifier in back, kind of evens out. One of the shocks leak a little, I have to put air in it every week or so but I can live with that, one of these days I’m going to put some “slime” in there and see if that works, sure works in tires!!! Ah the joy of fooling around with these old cars. herb
