Wood supply

Down near the bottom of my project list is a solar kiln like this one.

Jeff, I didn’t know you were using a swingblade sawmill too. I haven’t seen that model before. Looks brand new.

@kmrland A greenhouse would of course do, but will need good ventilation to get rid of all the moisture steaming off of the wood.

Hey Steve; I think I just saw a video of one of those in operation. TomC

It’s under the Bigtop now. Buildings will break a fella because of the high property tax up here.

JO, those big logs, you asked about, got closer to the mill.

Keep On Swinging !

Haha, Jeff you put some strain on that trailer
How wide boards can you make if you double-cut?

Hi JO,

Technically 20" (50.8 cm) but in the real world I bet about 18-19 inches (45.72 - 48.26 cm).

The large Cherry logs are a neighbors. I plan on using the slabber blade on those. I think the slabber will cut 4’ (122 cm).

Probably the last load of wood I brought to my parent’s place before snow. Made an adapter to be able pull Fergie’s trailer. Better to run the woodgas truck than tractor on gasoline.

Ahhhhh, a sight for sore eyes ! !

It will take alot of work to get those logs small enough to fit in the gasifer. But my first thought when I saw it was you are ready for a long trip now. Lol

Haha, this is one outof 12-15 loads of firewood I felled this fall. The truck will manage on the limbwood alone.

And these are the final limbs.
You’re probably sick and tired of my wood by now. I won’t bother you until next summer.

Not sick and tired of it just wishing I was so well off.

Dan, that’s funny.
But it’s easy to be well off on chunks over here. The pile on the trailer alone, is eq to about $500 worth of gasoline. A by-product of firewood and only a couple hours extra work.

I have to admit if we had to pay your fuel costs I would definitely figure out a different way to run my tractors.

Jan-Ola I like to see your pictures of the wood you haul on your truck . I am only cutting wood to heat my house.I would like to post some pictures but I don’t know how.I started to build a truck But had to stop due to health problems. i’m hoping to get started again in the near future. i built a saw up like one I saw on DOW site to saw slab wood and darned if I could buy any bundles of hard wood slabs this year. Oh well its just my luck…

Thank you Larry,
Pictures of wood are very velcome. It’s my main disorder - I love wood piles. They are like art, or porn if you like. You just can’t take your eyes off them. Wayne’s wood piles caught my attention a few years back and I’m hooked to DOW ever since
If you’re on the phone, just press the left button down to the right, when you’re in posting mode. Then select your pic. If you’re on the computer the button is to be found above your text.

Good morning JO

Is knowing you may have enough wood for the rest of your life a good thing  or a bad thing  ??

Hm…it depends…
I would say mostly a good thing.
But I do remember you telling us about the elderly gentleman who claimed he had enough gasoline in the tank to last him the rest of his life. That’s not a very cheering thought.
The big difference is we can claim there’s still as much fuel left (or more) when we’re done.
