You probably just experienced some of the most beautiful country the US has to offer. Northern Idaho leading into Montana is absolutely amazing. You are now in Buffalo country, dont get to close they will charge you!! Once you get out of Bozeman and start heading east it will get well a bit boring and then the Dekotas; fields for ever and ever. lol
pretty place…
Bob, what happened to the video on 270? did it get taken down?
Also, did you turn around yet?
We are about to get on the road. We unloaded Bob’s truck so he can turn around and head home. We did a clean out hope it runs better. I spent most of yesterday running a very light poplar wood. It made a lot of ash. It also plugged up a lot so with Mike’s Ash wood and Bob’s cherry it should do well.
If that charcoal is any decent size it might be good enough to run through again for any wet wood you still have.
that char will probably be put into a bag and carried along so it can be added if there is a problem with loose charbed…or the need to do another restart.
I already have 5 bags so I sent that one home with Bob.
We are east of Billings on I-94 cooling down and refueling at the top of mountain.
It is running ok the charbed and temps change suddenly a lot. But we are able to stay at about 55-60 mph
From what Jakob has told me , I think he is having to learn how to use different kinds of wood. From what I understand, Bob’s chunks are full of wide range in size and also lots of poplar. Softer means hotter. Also getting used to a different grate and 8 cylinders, etc…
Also Jake, did you reset the timing after messing with the distributor and tune up?
Yes I reset it.
I think I might have found my problem. A hot leak. I found an one inch split in the bottom barrel next to the ash door. Letting it cool some now so I can get my hand in there to try to silicone it .
Going up the mountains and over 4th of July and Out Look pass. Then down hill into Montana.

We made it to Dickinson North Dakota. It was a long day. I spent most of the day fighting a hot leak that I couldn’t find. I patched it with silicone and stove stove rope fiberglass that i had cut up and mixed in the silicone. Then I put a piece of aluminum tape over it it seems to hold. no more hot leak. I was still struggling to keep the char bed loose but I imagine that the bottom barrel is full of ash so once I cleanout tomorrow it should loosen up.
460 miles today.
You are still going fast enough to thin out the bug population.
On a really good day the pioneers could make 40 miles across that prairie.
Thanks for the pics and video Jakob .
Keep them coming.
My wood is all loaded into Jakob’s truck.

What a great DOW adventure this was.
I was so glad and blessed I could be a part of this historic event.
I had a 9 1/2 hour drive back home to East Wenatchee. It started to rain in Spokane what Blessing that is for the state. We stop to refuel about 100 miles outside of Billings Montana.
I am now home safe and sound.
Bob
When do you think you’ll be getting in here Jacob?

We had just crossed the the Great Continental Divide 6853’ elevation. The hay filter needed a good shaking. Jakob was burning some of my popular wood.
