Cody's 1996 Cavalier 2.2L

Oh I don’t work in detail anymore I deliver for the parts department now. They actually apparently do profit sharing at the end of the month if we blow the sales figures out of the water.

My dad has done paint and body since he was 15 starting with heavy equipment since grandpa liked his machines to look clean at the end of the week, I’ve been learning from him for a couple years now when a friend of his needs something painted.

You guys ever watch Iron Resurrection? Joe Martin paints fake chrome trim with an air brush that looks amazing. No reason why I put this here. Just made me think about paint.

But He also saves His worst punishments for the laziest shade tree mechanics.

An open letter to the guy that decided putting this hose clamp in at such an awkward angle to where pliers couldn’t get to it, may you rot alive

The other truck is a 90° pick, loop underneath to loosen it and rotate to where you can get pliers on it

Yeah I just ordered one earlier today, it’ll get here tomorrow.

Tried the pick trick but it’s really stuck on there. Pick just kept giving way.

I run the titan brand picks with strike through handle I have 2 sets and only ever broke one that was warrantied no questions asked. 10 years going strong of daily heavy abuse. Highly recommend them, my local SeaTac tool truck carries them but they should be available lots of places

First, sorry for posting this in your thread, Cody, but i have a question for you, if i remember correctly you have been into motorized bicycles? So my question is, do you have any experience with “vintage” Ohlsson and Rice (O&R) engines? As i understand they where popular as bike-engine kits a long time ago, and for powering almost anything. I’ve got an 1960s chainsaw with one of these engines, and tried to search drawings/manuals for them.
Sorry for posting this non-woodgas related stuff here, it just come to my mind to ask.

I don’t have any experience with real vintage kits or engines. If Chris wouldn’t mind me linking to another forum I would suggest asking at https://motorbicycling.com/

Thank you Cody, i should try that.

They might not be too thrilled about the moped though, they like to see pedals on the bikes :joy:

Cody, I also have one question, namely I am looking for an electronic ignition system for a 3 cylinder engine, it can be for 1 cylinder as well, but I would arrange three individual ones. I apologize, as does Goran.

Good then i have this one also, the european moped predecessor,

Year 1938, 98cc, much to fast for its standard bicykle brakes

Hi Tone, just wondering: can you use something from a 6 cylinder, using “half”, or “wasted spark”
Is it for a two or four-stroke?

Hi Goran, I have another diesel engine identical to the one on the tractor, three cylinders, which I intend to convert to 100% wood gas, to drive the generator - cogeneration. Maybe it would also work with a 6-cylinder system, good idea Goran.

Got the old hoses off, finally.

The tools I ordered yesterday arrived before the hoses I ordered last Thursday. Not fun. I might cancel those orders and just have my work find them on NAPA.

Supply chain issues. PITA!!! Is NAPA any better? I haven’t had any problems with Rock Auto, yet.

We order all of our non GM legacy parts stuff from NAPA so I’m sure they will have it.
According to Amazon the packages haven’t even made it to the post office.

Edit: apparently NAPA does free shipping on orders over 35 dollars, neat I didn’t know that.

New hoses arrived and are installed. Did a prestone cleaning just now. I’m hoping that I don’t get any surprise leaks in the radiator, a lot of water got sprayed on it last night and some spilled on it today so there’s a lot of steam obfuscating me.

Waiting for the engine to cool down and then I’ll do a regular water flush for 10 mins and put some antifreeze in there.

Edit:
If it’s not one thing it’s always another.

Key is stuck in the ignition, and won’t turn off. Tried the re-learning procedure and nothing doing.

Got the tumbler out, it’s totally borked. Every time I re assemble it, the key is stuck. Have to take it all apart again.

Nobody just sells the tumbler itself, has to be the whole cylinder. Over 100 dollars. Ridiculous. I’m beyond pissed.

@luke1968c10 how do you set up one of these VATS ignitions to a totally keyless startup?
I’ve seen your video but I am waiting on the bonded title and I’m afraid it won’t be a good enough proof of ownership to do the exact resistor matching. Is it possible to just put in a 20k resistor on the wire and it be fine? Does the Anti Theft actually do anything other than mess with the fuel system? I can’t tell.

I’m basically just wanting to put the ears of the tumbler back into the ignition and rotate to turn it on and off.

I took all of the pins out of the tumbler, and now I can get it to crank. Apparently the VATS system only shuts off the fuel pump? Must not be relevant for me since I have an inline pump now.

For reference, the Anti Theft light isn’t blinking, it’s solid as soon as I turn on the vehicle. Doesn’t go away no matter how long I let it sit but it isn’t inhibiting anything.
