Pretty crafty Giorgio. I’m thinking I’d use a pair of cut off wheels with a couple of washer spacers between them, Don. I know I couldn’t do that nice of a job with a plasma torch.
drilling a hole on every end of the planned slot, than cutting with the angle grinder…3 mm material
hopper welded up on hearth and 2 inch water fitting for water cooled nozzle…important screwing a strong fitting in cast iron in before welding for avoid weld bending…
today other work, must make the side parts for the pasquali cart, so no progress with the gasifier…
i would need a roller machine, but…provisoric bending with a propane tank…
and welding the thightening ring on top of the hopper with help of a adequate piece to avoid weld deformation on the really round ring
cutting the electodes - 1,5 mm- to half lenght is very helpful , because it avoids the trembling of the electrode…
actually i use those electrodes, they work really fine…before i have used stuff without trade mark, probably chinese or simil, and the coatings were not so good, but only from a part of theese elektrodes…i think the treader has got a load of cheap trash elektrodes, what not work, and so he mixes the good ones with a percentuage of the bad ones, to become rid of them…the bad ones, in the moment, when they ignite, parts of the coatings fall off immediately and so they glue…
the lid is also ready, will say the seal grove. this is to make easier when the thigtening ring is yet loose, so metal sheets can be used as clearing spacers.

yes, don, wheelbarrow wise , but i like to have also some packet on stock for some decades…they become automatically always more expensive…but i wonder how you can know this??
one gasifier not yet ready, enters the next project…
perfect for a gasifier, also the channel for the bottom nozzle is ready, lid with ideal seal grove …diameter inside 45 cm…volume 160 liters…here a question direct to tone:what do you think how big -ccm- a motor can be for this size, when making your charcoal gasifier design with bottom nozzle?

In your build photos, I have been looking for a nozzle, but have not seen one and wondered how I missed it. Now I know. It finally arrived. You do amazing work.

If you mean the lower nozzle from a rock drill, which has a hole diameter of 7 mm, this is enough to produce gas with an energy output of about 10 kW, which would be enough on the motor shaft if we have an engine efficiency of 25% - 30%, 2.5 - 3 kW of power. I don’t know which engine you want to power with this gasifier, well, if you are aiming for an output power on the motor shaft of 10 kW and you want to add humid air, then the diameter should be about 13-15 mm, so there will be no great resistance on the nozzle (about 4 cm of water column), and the air speed will be a little less than 50 m/s, which is ideal for the gasifier.
If this gasifier will power a high CR engine (diesel engine converted to gas), which operates unloaded in a vacuum of 6-7 m of water column, this resistance at the nozzle has practically no effect on the output power (less than 1%).
tone, i thought about the new container, my son has found in internet market place…it has a diameter of 45 cm…when i use a bottom nozzle in the center and have horizontal gas exit, how you have suggested once, for how much ccm engine it would work? i think a bit for the hanomag eventually, 4,5 liter engine with rpm 800- 1200, when i remember right…
as your design is something like a nozzle centered crossdraft, there the space for the reaction- reduction is limited (how also in a downdraft) in opposite to a updraft system ( ideal for lazy thinkers like me)
