Iller forwarder

I went out to pick up some dry fir trees yesterday, it doesn’t feel very good to ride with these metal tracks on rocks, if you hit a rock a little from the side the tracks almost seem to come off the wheels.
Do you have any ideas on an easy way to put on wide rubber wheels and get drive to these, now the wheels are driven by the tracks.

Is a 740 rear axle strong enough to use as a driving axle on the forest trailer for the illern, or do I need something bigger?

Jan, how will you transfer power? Hudraulic motor?

Yes, I bought 2 motors last fall, but haven’t found a good way to mount them.
Now I looked at youtube and got some ideas, and thought about something like this, would be pretty simple.

Hi Jan

I use a logging trailer with the drive axles powered by the PTO of my 40 hp tractor. The axle is from an old 1-ton truck (Dana 60) and seems to have held up for many years.
I can’t show you the building… it needs sun to warm it up a bit.

I think you’re right, the axle shaft I have now is a little over 2". Should probably have something similar.

:I’m looking for information on how to convert my forestry trailer into a forestry forwarder. A bit like this.https://youtu.be/JJuqP2Gje9s?t=1074

I think it’s mostly the Swedes who do these conversions. But I can’t find any technical advice on how to make this construction. I was wondering if some of you could help me. My main question is about building the adapter between the tractor and the trailer. Maybe there is a document somewhere to help forest producers make this construction… even ChatGPT seems to have no answer on this.

Great video, I thought I had seen everything on yt ! Very interesting, thanks Jan.
I realize better that this is a big technical challenge for me.

Thierry,
That is a fine video you linked to! I have been watching it bit by bit this morning, there is a fresh new idea every minute or so! :cowboy_hat_face:
It just goes to prove that:
When there is a need, and a will to succeed, determination can find a way!

I thought I’d show you how I did it, I don’t have any machines, I’ll just grind and weld. The first picture is the joint at the machine, the second picture is the steering, and the third picture is how the cart can turn when it’s tilted.

Thanks Jan, I don’t think you have a driveshaft between the tractor and trailer? It’s this constraint that’s giving me trouble. Both in transmitting the power through the driveshaft and in building a very strong, articulated tractor-trailer unit.

Oj, hur det kan bli. Oh, how could that be?

Oh no!
Jan, you have to slow down or the next time the wind drag will rip the gasifier off and you won’t be able to find it

It looks relatively unharmed, otherwise I would guess that a windburst took the tree in a not so good direction.
But what happened?

Can’t give that picture a like.

There was only a pothole and a stump in the wrong place, so the frame of the generator touched the ground, I hope I can finish it on petrol. It doesn’t usually run so well on petrol when it gets hot.

Ouch. I hope it is an easy fix.

What do I do to prevent the ferret from riding on the rear wheels when I don’t have any weight on the front??

Jan, I think you would benefit from a vertically stiff waist. Much like any other forwarder.
