Life goes on (original thread)

Found a way to cut fuel discs !! Tim would be proud!

Thanks, Admin Chris! It may have been a simple gesture on your part but it is a huge weight off of my shoulders.

You may share as much as you feel like.

Hey, y’all

carson

Thanks Carson.

On the same note I had someone ask if I had been in this area all my life . I replied " Just about but not yet "

Now that’s a chainsaw Peter. I I thought my hydraulic one was cool.

I have successfully refurbished this old hand-crank grinding wheel! As expected, inside just had rusty dry gunk. I cleaned it all out, wire-brushed the contract areas, put in some “bar-and-chain oil” and mystery grease, and put it back together with new screws (1 was missing and the other 2 badly rusted.)

The main gear has a few teeth knocked off so it makes an unhappy sound right as the handle is straight up.

I didn’t have a crank handle so I learned the joy of making a small rectangular hole in a piece of bar stock. A round drawer pull on end makes a nice grip for spinning it.

The wheel is a bit uneven but I don’t even know if I could find replacements these days.

All that said, it works!

(Ps, the white stuff is residue from the duct tape price tag.) Also, post #666. >:D

Hello Mike L.

Sorry I missed your call . I was out getting all the vehicles and tractors out of any sheds or building and putting them in the open. We are forecast to have strong storms and wind tonight and I had rather the machines face the weather than have a building on them.

It is dark now 72 F and raining.

Spent 4 days at the North house folk school located in Grand Marais Minnisota learning/making a masonry heater. It was a blast.

Cool stuff!
More pics please

More on masonry heaters at http://www.mha-net.org/. My sister and brother-in-law have a great one.

The family and I made a quick trip to the flea market this morning ( apx 80 miles ) . Picked up tools and misc.

Below is a picture of silicone 2 3/8 inch flex hose that I use for pipe connectors. He priced them to me for $15 but I gave him $20 . I think I know more what they are worth than he did!

Good find Wayne…one mans junk is another mans treasure holds true once again.

Here’s some hi temp (1800C) paint on fire tube coatings. 5th down on the list, “BN Aerosol Resistance to molten metals, high temperature lubrication, electrical insulation, high thermal conductivity, resistance to molten salts, resistance to molten glasses, release agent for ceramic hot-pressing.” And almost affordable!

Hi Carl
I think you are on the same stuff that my mate has suggested.
I would contact them, explain the situation and see what they recommend.
When I pick up the paint tomorrow I will give post a run down of what it is, and we can compare the two.
Thanks Patrick

a friend gave me some tires so i figured it was time to change out what i was driving on… here’s a pic of what i took off… can honestly say i haven’t gotten stuck once this winter, though i wasn’t able to make it up the big hill outta town to go to the shop twice.

Hey Mike L .

I took this picture at my brother’s house this morning to rub you a little. Looks like we will be sweating mowing grass while you’re still walking on ice and busting your a - -

Don’t know which is worse !

I was looking in all the right places for tanks today. I spotted a blue pressure tank in the pile at a scrapyard today. Iset off after it, brobe through the crust in the snow at knee deep level and sunk to my armpits and had to turn back. When the snow finaly melts it’s back to work and no time to build. I think i’ll spend next winter at Wayne’s. I had enough!

Nice Green ! We are supposed to get 2 to 4 more inches of the white crap tonight … M

Wayne, Mike,
It started to break zero here! I have to snowshoe in to my shop still. When I can get a machine out to the road, I will be able to sell one of my new Gasifiers. These are just right for an 18 horse air-cooled engine.
I built two. One is for showing folks how they work, the other is shiny new.
Andy

Glad you are still with us Andy. SSDD here. Snow is over my knees and to waist in some spots. I have new stuff to play with as well.I have a flat spot where my truck has been all winter. I am keeping it parked there to keep the ground frozen and snow away so when it gets nice out I can burn the paint off the water tanks in this new one. I hope you can come south in May this year … One day at a time here … BTW, if folks don’t know what Andy’s picture is, it is the picture of the gassers at the first woodgas gathering in the USA. Mike
