it lights well, just have to push the primary fuel all the way in
painted finally
On vacation to see the family during Thanksgiving. We went shooting at Majestic Outdoors hunting club. This was my son’s first time out - his Uncle gave him this yard sale BB gun and he loves it. He’s been sleeping with it and he takes it to the bathroom too !
PURCHASED A SET OF PLANS TO BUILD A GEODOME, DECIDED TO TEST THE DESIGN WITH A 1/4 SIZE DOME TO PLAY. THIS IS A HUBLESS DESIGN THAT I PLAN TO USE FOR A AQUAPONIC GREENHOUSE SOMEDAY IF I GET AROUND TO IT, WITH A ROCKET HEATER FOR COLD MONTHS. HAD TO MAKE 30 PENTAGON TRIANGLES AND 69 HEXAGON TRIANGLES TO MAKE THIS DOME. VERY STRONG WHEN COMPLETE
Richard - Nice! Are you planning to build the larger one this summer? It is surprising how many people are into aquaponics now. I have gathered the materials to do a 16 x 40 on the side of my garage. I will be starting with Talipa and greens this Spring.
I will not get one built next summer but it is in the future plans.I would like to build one 17 feet across the bottom when I do build it.
Richatd, I’ve built many geodesic domes. First one in 1972. The one on the third floor of my windmill house I built in about 2000. It’s a little one about 11 feet across. My biggest one was 45 feet. I love domes.
My apologies to anyone that may have tried to contact me directly through the web site. I discovered yesterday that I had the wrong email address.
Thanks Chris for helping me out on this!!
WHAT A DUMMY!!
Shed is finally finished… now I just have to get it to my place
Hi Guys,
I recently have been given the opportunity to obtain a 2005 Mercedes AMG CL 65 salvage vehicle. The engine is an all aluminum 365 ci. V12, twin turbo, 604 hp with an automatic transmission. I have visions of transplanting this engine & transmission into a light weight street driver. The physical transplant is no problem, very straight forward project although the electronics & computer systems not so. After some research, Mercedes experts tell me that a stand alone system for the engine & trans. would be next to impossible to accomplish due to the highly complex nature of this vehicle. Before I throw the towel in on this project, I thought I would throw it out there for some input from the on site electronic experts. Anybody out there think this is possible??
Peter
Engines are pretty deeply integrated nowadays. But it’s certainly possible - the question is how much of the original car is required to keep the brain boxes happy? Ideally you could pull out the original wiring and the ECUs and it would still run. But you say the computers can’t be brought along?
Here’s a place that does Mercedes engine transplants into older Mercedes: http://www.mechatronik.de You could contact them asking how hard the swap really is.
Chris is right, anything you can bolt that baby into can run on it (provided you fab up mounting brackets, custom bell housing or driveshafts etc).
Just make sure that you pull ALL of the wiring. You’ll want the shop manual with the Mercedes wiring diagrams. Don’t go with a cheap knock-off book get the real deal for this one. As long as you have all of the CPU’s and misc sensors (including body sensors) it won’t know it’s in a different vehicle.
Where you probably will run into trouble is with things like their ABS sensors and front/rear/side impact sensors. These probably have their own cpu’s which then communicate with the main cpu via canbus or some other protocol. If that’s the case you’ll have to keep those parts or find a way to trick the cpu into thinking they are there else you’ll get a ton of warning lights and error codes.
Remember Mercedes puts a lot of cutting edge stuff in their vehicles that no other vehicle will have so you’ll have to have ALL of that car and you’ll basically have to keep the entire powertrain system and electrical system. It’s possible but likely WAY more work than it’s worth. But for a hobby project it rocks!
I once put a 4 cylinder mitsubishi motor (from a Chrysler Conquest Import) into a Chevette, turbo and all - even kept the leather interior (a friend wrapped the Conquest around a tree). We got it all in there and she was the fastest Chevette on the road, but it took two winters to get it right and the power twisted that flimsy unibody right up!
Chris, I just wrote to Mechatronik as you suggested ----- await their response.
Henry, I would build a custom round tube chassis for this project. 600hp is about average for performance hot rods today ---- not really overkill. What makes this very desirable is light weight assembly, 2000 — 4000 rpm power curve & 20 mpg in a 4800 lb auto.
I also thought that I could pull all the wiring & by pass all unneeded functions. Spoke to a very helpful fellow at Kleeman Ind. & was told that the systems utilized in these particular vehicles are unlike anything found in any other vehicle. Apparently all functions such as active suspension control, automatic emergency braking, ABS, steering wheel warning, air bags, water sensing wipers etc. are integrated into the engine - transmission management system. They tell me that the transmission management system is even more complex than the engine. Also, they are using multi purpose single wire, sounding similar to International Truck’s multiplex system. Even the ignition key station is matched to the ECU. I am by no means an expert in this field, just relaying information recently attained for your review. Still think it is possible? Thanks
Peter
Possible - Yes
Practical - Probably Not
You’d have to transfer all of those suspension components, sensors, wiring, cpu’s etc over to that tube chassis you’re making. You’d basically be building a tube frame for their vehicle and tossing on your own body. I don’t think i’d try this one myself.
Hi arvid
I just got oneof those last month
mine had a 6cyl ford engine on it but i got it for the gov and carb
so many toys so little time LOL
Tom
Pork Butt
These whole pork butts went on sale so I got some and put them on the smoker for 18 hours then canned alot of it in jars. Makes for a quick meal fixer, does’t have to thaw, is already cooked and will survive a long power outage. Love my all american pressure canner.
Looks delicious! We have the larger version of that pressure cooker. It’s a beast!
Ricahard Cooper,
This is an going argument with my wife. She wants to freeze everything that she buys.
After about 3 or 4 months, the frozzen stoggets freezer burn and tastes accordinly.
I like to buy the canned goods that will last a long time; without refrigeration.
A good pressure cooker, and some good reason, makes the “Grid” unnessisary
But I am a realist; HAPPY WIFE,HAPPY LIFE. I do what she wants
Have a American pressure cooker, Can 16 pints at a time usually salmon Love it !
