Cobalt is used in the oil drilling industry I forget just how but they are the largest consumer of it.
There are batteries like LTO and Lifepo4 that don’t used cobalt all all.
Wasn’t everyone better off with Hydro v/ Natural gas? We are mostly hydro with some Nuclear. I really like the lake that comes from us having hydro it seems the most renewable. The river flows whether we use it or not.
Dont be bitter Mr Steve. If you cant beat them, join them. I really like the sound of a v8, but we are very happy with the ev. Fastest car I ever had. And the nice thing is, during the summer you drive on the sun! How nice would it be to let my wife ride on wood in the winter? She keeps clean hands and I dont have to pay for any fuel.
The thing is, if you can keep up your own pants, nothing can touch you. For me, I still need a belt and have to reincarnate a few times before I paid the morgage. But energywise there are lots of savings right now and costs are near zero. Remember that fuel is double here, and that is just tax.
We will see if electrifying will save the world Only a moderate lifestyle will. And if you are responible for that, wood, electricity, modesty will follow naturely.
We’re looking to have a 40 degree swing today. We were at 45F this morning and supposed to get up to 85F.
It’s better to get things done early before the bugs come out.
I feel your pain Bill. Getting awfully hot here too. It’s only noon and already 75F. Won’t get much done today
Our swing is about 35 degrees f in the opposite direction today. We have been in the 90s for the last week and today the high is forecast to maybe hit 60F. I like the cooler weather and New Hampshire is known for temperature swings but this is crazy.
Oh well we do need the rain so I am glad it cooled down and rained even if that means going from well above avg temperatures to below average overnight.
Hoping someone can help me. I am trying to replace the tires on the motorcycle wheels on my saw mill. Spent a lot of time with every trick I know and could not break the bead on these. I finally cut the tire off the rim and still could not get the bead of the tire to release. These rims are off a 1985 Honda Nighthawk. I finally cut away a piece of the stuff down to the rim and even with vice grips on it it will not let go, like it’s glued on.
Second picture was clearer. That’s a ribbed bead that the tire somehow swallows. Nothing like that on the new tire.
Hello Tom .
If you don’t mind ruining the tire a cutting torch should do the trick
Yes, put some heat to it. If you could just get one spot to let go and get a long nose pliers under the steel cords maybe you could twist and break them one at a time. I would say diagonal wire cutters, but that steel cord would ruin them.
Is the rim steal or aluminum? If it is steal I would simply have a brush fire and toss it in. If it is aluminum you will need to control the heat more. My other thought was if you have something big enough toss it in gas that will desolate almost anything. My guess is that someone glued the old tire on because the rim wasn’t perfect they used a ton of rubber cement. I have seen that before when a tube would have been a better option. My solution was to take the tire back to the shop who glued it on in the first place.
I wish I wasn’t always in a hurry to get to work or dead tired coming home.
People in town have been doing a good bit of trimming and I saw a good trailer full of branches in a nice pile. I’ve got serious stranger anxiety so it would be awkward to ask them if I can take it, and even more awkward if I just pulled up and started taking it.
Just frustrating to see it like that.
Easy least I do it all the time and people do it to my dad’s tree service “y’all want to get rid of that wood? I’ll haul it out for free” is usually all it takes around here. Depending on location most tree services have to pay to dispose of brush if it’s a total clean up job. My dad and I always pitch it to a customer that we can knock the price down if they dispose of debris instead of us. We usually get the job, take the tree down limb it up stack the brush and buck rounds for firewood and half the time before we are done people are showing up off craigslist and OfferUp to pickup the wood they homeowner sold them before it hit the ground. Every contract is different some are for saw logs, some firewood, some just drop it and leave it lay (my personal favorite on a hot Friday afternoon) and some total cleanup. Each one prices differently and usually if the home owner or buisness doesn’t have to get there hands dirty they won’t. Pay to haul it off or get payed to sell it. But if the tree service has to pay disposal they will almost always give it away to anyone that ask because then they don’t have the hassle of load deliver and unload and they get to pocket the cash from being payed to dispose of said debris and go home early. It’s an all around win for the tree service
We are seeing the same kind of 40 degree but not that cold of temp swings, minus the BUGS. The cool air is sent from the great Yehovah above, thank you Heavenly Father in your words name Yeshua the Messiah.
Hey Bill I don’t think I bought enough syrup. We are plowing through it.
Bob
8 degrees C (46.3f) this morning when I went out and released the sheep, but will probably get hot today.
Gorgeous picture! That could make it on a calenders!
The summer of 21…
Sad to announce that my father passed away , age 83.
I could not go there to visit him, covid related travel restrictions and quarantine rules.
Last 3 summers i have lost a dear person, each year, must be a sign that i am getting old ?
The more i loose, the more i care for those still around.
Especial here on DOW.
I hope you all stay well, i will still be on DOW here, might be a little less active…
Sorry for the loss of your loved ones.
Thanks for the suggestions about the motorcycle tires. They are aluminum wheels so I guess I’ll carefully burn them off. I’d like to know what they are stuck on with because it’s tougher than me. Normally for a car or truck tire I just lay it on the ground, put a board on the tire and drive up on it. Didn’t want to try that here because I was afraid of bending the rim somehow. Doubt it would have worked anyway.
My condolences on your loss. Not being able to be there for someone you care about makes that doubly hard. I have been there in the past.
Living on the old family farm has showed me that in time you remember the good things. I often find myself thinking of my uncle and grandfather when I am working in a particular field or place we did things together. But with time those memories don’t hurt they remind me of how I became the person I am.
My condolences Koen. Very sorry to hear of your loss .
