Life goes on - Summer 2022

Interesting weather today, nice, sunny fall weather. Without any signs of warning, heavy thunder, rain, storm, and then, worst hailstorm in many years :open_mouth:

I belive these melted some before i could snap a picā€¦

I had to rush out to save Ellie, my pet duck, no good idea bareheadedā€¦
Edit: good thing though, i believe all leaves are down now.

Sorry Tom, I was off doing Solar things and havenā€™t been checking the site.
Yes, I have seen those pump jacks. The work over crews near Kalkaska used to give me drip gas, from the wells. I always wanted an Ajax engine.

Goren your hard hat is an old, old tar coated fiber felt, yes?

Hi SteveU, yes, something like that, my guess was that hard ā€œpaperā€ glued hard and pressed to shape, with some resin/ coal tar.

Mom was complaining about friendā€™s Jeep Cherokee. So I tossed a battery into it and started cranking. After about 5 seconds it woke up. Then died. What the heck. Check under the hood again, DUH I unplugged the ballast resistor to stop or slow down any thieves. The ballast resistor up on the driverā€™s fender controls the current going to the fuel pump and with it disconnected you get just enough gas going to the injectors to start up and idle for about 5 seconds.

After I reconnected that it ran like a champ, to be expected of the invincible 4.0L I6. Went to go park it behind the barn.

We are under a burn ban here. No open fires. Smoke will get the fire department called. So no charcoal making for me. Burn danger area starts in Kansas and runs east thru Indiana. Itā€™s harvest time here. Lots of dust in the air also from picking. Sinuses are running full tilt.

No fire threat here. We have had some amount of rain every day for the last seven and will get it today and tomorrow along with 50 plus wind gusts. Really hard to get winter preps done but more dead trees blew over so that helps.

A little dusting of snow on the ground here in Indiana. Leaves are changing. It will be at its peak of color in a few days. We have around a million plus visitors to see the leaves and the covered bridges. The ten-day festival will be over Sunday. Highs in the 40ā€™s and 50ā€™s. When the visitors clear out on the two lanes I need to get the truck out and run it a bit.

I got the truck! Rochester quadrajet on a 350sbc. Filled up from the vent tube with some clean new gas and 2 stroke oil.

Tank was almost empty, so I put in a bottle of HEET and 5 gallons of fresh gas. After upping the idle she ran pretty alright.

I really need to get these aftermarket wheels off theyā€™ll only be a liability. They use spacer blocks and I hate that. I think some of the lugs on the spacer block are broken off.

Need to find some cheap 5x5" wheels.

Edit:
Wheel Vintiques has some 15x7 5x5" lug, 4" backspace wheels. Does that seem like the correct size?

Crazy weather this year, floods, drought, Hoping we donā€™t get any bad ice storms, ROAD salt eats up the car bodys , in ten years they are many missing the rocker pannels, here in northern US central michigan area, Road salt, I just cut up a trailer 8 years old ,i made out of 1" 1/4 water pipe, and it was rusted full of holes in the pipe, ware the axel welded too the trailer frame. I should have laid thicker angle between the pipe and the axel, though i overloaded it a few times, and bent the axel, anyway. THOSE southern truck bodys sure last, and look much better for sure.

This may just be in Michigan, but remember when you bought a new vehicle and they always wanted to get you to pay for the Ziebart rust proofing and you had to just a bout knock the salesman out before heā€™d let you out the door without it or when you were leaving without buying anything they would always sweeten the deal by offering to throw it in. Last new vehicle we bought was my wifeā€™s Nissan Rogue in 2015 and it was exactly the same with the ceramic paint treatment. Well Ziebart plugged up the drain holes in the doors and made them rust out faster and just flaked off the undercarriage and the Ceramic coat does not mean you never have to wax again.

Tom, as an insider to the Stealership Industry, Iā€™ve found that they already put all that crap on there and will try to force you to pay for it. Itā€™s a way for the dealer to tack on more price on top of MSRP. We do this with every Denali, High Country, AT4, Cadillac you name it.

Good morning all.

I havenā€™t had my wood burners out on the road in a few days . The reason is not anything wrong with the trucks but because of a little fish about an inch long. ( trispot darter ) . This little fish had not been seen since 1967 but the Fish and Wildlife department found some in my little stream in my pasture and a few other small streams in the area .

The road coming into my farm has a culvert pipe underneath that could make it difficult for the fish to go up stream to spawn.

The Fish and Wildlife wanted permission to put in a bridge that would make a trip up steam for the fish more natural .

Iā€™m going to have to get me some gills. No one ever made it easier for me to get up my road. I hope those fish donā€™t produce as much gas as your cows or else folks in Washington DC would insist they be killed.

Good morning Wayne
Looks like the beaver will have their hands full building a new dam, that one will take a good minute to plug up. At least its big enough to walk inside of for dam removal!

Wow. The Fish and Game Dept. Is now going to have to keep it cleaned out too of beaver brush. It is their colvert put in for their fish. Nice.

I was waiting for the because ā€¦ ā€˜I was busy converting an excavator and a water pump to woodgas with all the free materials the Fish and Wildlife service provided.ā€™

beavers? LOL I watched too much Moonshiners. I was actually wondering how good of a spot that would be to make shine. You have an 8ft high culvert about 16ft long, with a clean running water sourceā€¦

The last person who tried attacking eating meat, because of emissions and eating meat wasnā€™t sustainable. I told them it would make more logical sense to first get rid of the animals that have emissions and donā€™t positively contribute to society like all the pets. Then he tried to attack big ag, and I had to remind him the pet industry is 100B+/yr industry now and all the strays destroy native wildlife. I donā€™t understand why he didnā€™t like that suggestion.
