Jan, he may be able to take a ride on that atv again soon. By the end of May
How does he not have a winch for that wheeler?
He has a winch, but something must have gone wrong, he has not said anything to me or the other neighbor, do not know why.
I thought his hallow had slipped. TomC

At world cup cross-country skiing in Falun yesterday, Iivo Niskanen (Finland) was interviewed by a Swedish female reporter - in English. Iivo answered in Finnish but the reporter didn’t have a clue what kind of answers she was receiving
GM to eliminate gasoline and diesel cars and trucks by 2035.

This is pretty big news. I have been working on an electric truck conversion, and it has gotten me thinking a lot about the technology and how quickly it is developing. I think electric car sales were like 1% of the US market last year, but I read that we tend to be very bad at understanding exponential growth. Just looking at the market capitalization of Tesla tells you where investors think the market is going to go. Forget GameStop, I am thinking of investing money in some of the big lithium battery makers
I think we are still a ways out from up-front price parity, but it would not surprise me if we are only a few years away from being able to buy an electric car with hundreds of miles of range for less than a ICE vehicle. And the maintenance is so minimal, it almost feels like cheating.
Once I get up and running, I am going to play around with using a charcoal generator for charging in the winter. I hope that still counts as driving on wood!
According to the NYT we crossed price parity with the Tesla Model 3. You see the comparison all over the map on the model 3 because it is hard to say just where it fits into the car market there is a huge price range of cars that people switch from to the model 3 allowing people to compare it to a wide difference in ice car prices.
Personally I think the big switch comes in with the Tesla cyber truck if they can make that at the 40k price it will be cheaper than a half ton pickup truck.
Elon Musk can keep that thing! I think it looks weird. The other models look pretty cool, but I think a truck should look like a truck. I feel like I heard that an all-electric F-150 is in the works. Time will tell, but I suspect things are going to change quite a bit in the next decade or two.
Oh I don’t want a cyber truck. It is clear that Elon watched back to the future too many times because that ugly 80s sports car is all I can think of when I see it.
But 10,000 lbs towing at $40,000 IIRC is impressive to me.
The ford/ Rivian truck (pretty sure they are the same truck different body) is hitting the market at something like $120,000 I can’t afford that price for looks alone.
To be honest I looked at the cyber truck in detail for my farm but the bed is useless for my hay delivery and the towing capacity is too low for me to feel confident using it with the loads I haul on my 2005 Chevy duramax. But honestly i would look ugly for the stainless steel body if the rest of the truck would meet my needs.
Either way I think the next 5 to 10 years will be interesting my goal is to keep my truck on the road until the dust settles out and then look for a good replacement I think.
I would definitely be interested in more information about the EV Tuck that is a dream project of mine to get a 1 ton dump and make it an EV for my farm. But good used ones around here are expensive and the cheap ones have rusty frames.
I hope that we all here will be there by then to check if it happens.
The difference between men and boys can be the cost of their toys
My plan Carl. We have a model 3, running on pv most of the time. Now for wintertime , I want a solution. Since we heat with wood, better to make power too. This is the first year we heat 100% wood, system is not completed, so no new projects until finished. Unfinished project is no project.
But EV is great! No emission, no smell. Air quality here in West Europe is really bad. I think because we all drive diesel, but dont know that for sure. A few years ago we were in New York. I hate big cities, but if the family wants to go, I have to go. Very nice holiday, one thing that surprised me the most was the clean air in NY. I think because most cars run on gas instead of diesel. So all together, EV is what the future is. And it is up to you wether the electricity is renewable or fossile.
That is definitely a factor. Do you still have coal power plants in your area as well? I worked within a few miles of the Bow NH coal plant and even with the emmisions control we had in the 90s here there where days my car would be covered in soot when I got out of work. They sware up and down that it had noting to do with the power plant. Guess it was just coincidence that the soot fell in a circle centered on their facility.
High compression gas motors can also make nitrous oxide in the exause which is one of the biggest problems with diesel exhaust and human health. So I definitely agree with the EV alternative.
My long term goal is to electrify as much as I can and then generate with wood when I need additional power that solar PV can’t provide. But I am a long ways from that goal.
I like the toys that are paid for with sweat and tears of hard labor more than the ones bought by rich kids.
