Did your wife find that saw for you Goran or is that a present from you to her? I enjoy thinking about a woman that would be thrilled with a chain saw for Christmas. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :star_struck:

Boy oh boy.

Duke Energy is manually shutting off electricity in some areas to “save the grid”.

I’m not affected yet, maybe because I get my power from a Co-op that buys electricity from multiple companies.
One of my friends that lives in a trailer park did get his power cut off. Maybe Duke is doing some sort of round robin system. Either way it isn’t good.

Our pump house became frozen, and all the lines under the house.

The line running to the hot water heater also burst and now I’ll have to fix that, because it broke before a cutoff valve and thus had to shut off the well pump. Hope I can make it to Lowe’s before they close for the day.

In some kind of temporary fix, someone(probably one of my uncles) had put screen doors on the pumphouse and boiler room. They’re a very odd size so we can’t easily replace them. I may just have to make custom doors out of plywood and 2x4.

When we actually used the oil burner furnace to heat the house the screen door made sense. Mom since replaced it with a heat pump AC system and so the hot water heater is the only source of warmth in the room.

I’d really love to fix the old boiler and replace it with a wood fired one, our heating system doesn’t work well in Sub-Freezing temps. We still have the vents in all the rooms.

Remember, keep the water running and moving in the pipes a little in freezing conditions. It is very hard to freeze moving water.

You could allways start building a new fire box ,then put water jacket around the fire box, I need too build a taller fire box with water jacket, for a spare, and a taller one leaves more room for charbed on the bottom, my wood burner heater, has grate in the bottom, ash falls intoo a seperate metal box with ash door, the small fans that feed the fire, push the smoke out the bottom grate, and too the back end of the burner unit, and up though about 10 --2" and 3" pipes, before it goes about 3-1/2 feet through that water jacket box, then up through the standard chimney pipe./ MY Next wood burner will be at leiste 4’ tall and about 18 " too 24" wide. 1/4" plate. THE one i got is about 3 foot tall, a little short, but it would be plenty good in your neck of the woods.

I am happy to see you post Mr U. It was a hard day here trying to dig out from a two day blizzard. Neighbor came with his tractor mounted blower and helped because these four and five foot high drifts were kicking my ass. We can at least get in and out now in case of emergency. Still quite a bit to be done and it’s snowing again, but only Lake Effect and the winds have died down. Definitely a white Christmas. I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful day with their loved ones. I hope you southerners are thawing out. I haven’t checked to see if you are unfrozen yet.
