Continuing the discussion from Life goes on - Summer 2025:
Did you REALLY HAVE to switch it to WINTER already? Please tell me you are jumping the gun by a few months. ![]()
Well it for-sure it ainât Summer no-more. Snows acumulating up high now. Growths stopped, except for some drought-break grasses out of dormancy now re-greening for a short few weeks before going into winter dormancy.
Most everything here frosts stopped killed now.

Several of the internet long range forecasts have us for 15 feet of snow this winter. That would be a couple of feet less than we had last winter but not enough to get the tears off my cheeks. Iâm all elbows and A-holes with the chainsaw right now. Last year ate a ways into my reserves. I hope it holds off long enough for me to get stocked with firewood without too much weather struggle. If I could afford a snowmobile I could just cut all winter.
Blessings and congratulations! Thatâs a lucky guy.
edit: If I believed in luck ![]()

Hey if you hear from Mr.Wayne wish him a Very Happy Birthday you see we both turned 77 in October. Thanks
I was headed out last night, and noticed one of the headlights was turning orange on the car. So it was before the autoparts store closed, so I stopped in⌠The cheapest bulb they had that fit the car was 105 dollars. (it is a xenon HID bulb). I about choked. I ordered a set of leds plus fog lamps off ebay for 65 bucks. Now I have to wait 4 days for shipping. hopefully they work okay. ![]()
I noticed the same trend with my 2005 chevy pickup lights. The lenses are getting bad but i donât drive much at night anymore.
I was suprised i could probably save money with a complete after market LED set for it. I am assuming the manufacturers are not running the old lines much as they always depend on new vehicles for the bulk of the sales. Aftermarket was considered high value low volume when i worked at Osram and we would dump the lowest quality items that passed inspection there.
The silverado ones for that era truck were 30 bucks each the last time I did it. It was the cheaper option then the LED kit at the time I did it. And the first LEDs had issues mimicing the light pattern.
To be a little fair, the auto parts store only had the âoff-roadâ xenon bulbs in stock so they were technically too bright for the road. The ledâs I am getting around supposed to be brighter and have a longer field of view, which will make it easier to spot deer on the side of the road.
On little Helmerâs (2,5 yo) request we visited an opening party today - at our local brand new fancy recycling establishment (dump).
Helmer was especially eager to go because of the garbage truck. Unfortunately the truck broke down and was unable to attend. But - there was a pickup with a crane and the operator cranked it up and moved the crane around on Helmerâs request. Also, there were hotdogs and orange juice for free. All good.
I fixed up a 1995 Land Cruiser I found here in NH and drove it to AZ for gold metal detecting trips to the mountains. My brother and I drove straight through in 50 hours. Besides gas and bathroom only one 20 minute break for a taco.
Only one nugget this time.
Sean i know it will sound silly but those plastic deer whistles for car work. I bought a set about 25 years ago when i worked nights and put them on my 2000 Pontiac TA because i was seeing deer in the road about 4 times a week driving home. They would be standing on the yellow line starring at the headlights. After i put those whistles on the only deer i ever saw where running parallel to the edge of the road or off into the woods. If i didnât see it myself i wouldnât believe it. But it was on the same roads and changed the next day after putting those on the car. There is a opening under the fog lights low on the bumper of the TA that is where i put them you donât even see that they are there. You just have to remove them to change the directional bulb as it is the hand access.
Wow, Mike Gibbs and I took a long and slow trip Argos woodgas meetup in 2021, compared to you two record breaking time. Thatâs what gold prospecting will do to you, lol. You will never get rich in monies, but the time you spend with people, is worth more than many grams of gold you might find.
I got some for like a dollar, and couldnât find a place to mount them. There just isnât a lot of space. For the headlights on this, to change the bulb, you have to undo the wheel well curtain and reach in through the fender. In fact I got the leds that still use the ballast, because it looks like I would have to take off the front to get to the wiring, and I -think- it also is connected to the canbus, but I havenât verified that.
