Aha, good to know. Disadvantage of simple fire is a lot of ‘dead’ charcoal inside compared to the Koen gasifiers. But since I bought me a few barrels maybe take one for gasifier then. The one that is molted was little with a to big blower. Did it myself, not the design from Gary or Koen. Gary’s design runs up to a big generator… Probably go that way. Learned a lot. Thanks everyone. The hard piece is making charcoal the easy way.
Joep,
There is a saying that “the dumb question is the one not asked” meaning it is dumb not to ask a question if you need to know. I waited to see what others would say about the gasket. I use the one drum, direct method with an open-ended second drum on top to burn off the gasses and eliminate smoke. The lid I put on the barrel to seal up after the burn is actually the end of a hot water heater cabinet. Though it slips nicely over the end of the drum, it is not air tight. Then I put a weight on top to hold it down as tight as possible. With dirt around the slits in the base this seems to shut out the air well enough to stop the burn.
Thanks Steve, I think I stole my ideas from you. Read your thread and it fits me best. Thanks.
Hi Wayne, the last few days heat wave has been 107 to 112 * f but it is dry heat here. You don’t even break a sweat unless you are working. Lol today it finally is cooling off , may it will break a 100 * f. Some clouds have moved into this part of Washington State.
I am liking it.
Bob
Hey BobMac
High 90’s F in the westside I-5 valley corridor over here. O.K. making the garden corn and tomatoes to now rapid grow with daily sprinkling.
Also ok becouse we are high enough up on the westside slope to get the house cooled down to 63-66F before sunup. We designed and manage this little house so never get above 76F even late afternoons.
Just had our 5th bantee hen hatch out of the year. Eight this time.
That, and bumper crop of blueberries, raspberries; with heavy set of blackberries and table grapes coming on.
A good year. A good year.
Regards
Westside SteveU.
Up here in Corvallis Oregon we are getting the same 100-105 in the day but like Bob said it’s dry heat. That is only in the middle of the day,in the mornings the it is cool and quite pleasant. This feels really good compared to Alabama. Right now but I hear they get snow herein the winter and that is anything but pleasant.
Hi Steve, Dana And I went out into the Blewett pass area and found the Service Berries were ready to pick.
This is all that is left of the pie she made. It not Blue Berry, or Huckleberry, but it is good. The best part is that there are more berries coming on. Need to get up to Stevens pass area for the Huckleberry picking before all the bears eat them all up.
Bob
Actually, your mother canned apple pie filling this week with most of them. Pears are coming next week. Figs started yesterday also.
That ain’t true here this past week or so. It’s hot here. Just about finally getting to the right temperature. 104 on my porch this week.
I have to tell ya’ll about this lettuce seed I found. We have good sweet lettuce in the field even now… Just starting to fill out. even in 100+ weather. called Sumemrtime lettuce. Very good stuff.
Luke and Jesse and I had to clean out the septic tank today. That job was a load of crap, I tell you.
A little this and that.
Hot today. Low 70s Decided to drain my tar. Put my juice can upside down towards a south wall and mounted a temporary can on the truck for the day. 2 hours of lawn mowing and then off to pick blueberries. Found a good spot today.
And @Jan, I did a quick cyclone dump on the road going home for your comparance. Keep in mind I have no grate. This is about 80 km or two days worth of mixed dust and char. I haven’t emptied anything from the actual gasifier for about six months. DOWing almost every day.
That is one nice looking retaining wall. You will definitely have to do something in that space just to enjoy such a nice looking stone wall.
Hello Everyone!!!
hello joseph , have you got another wood gas ride yet, or been too bussi.
Hi Dan, I intend to cover the space, which will be used to store wood chips
Artistic vs practical
Well I guess you can look at the wall while you work…
Haha, sounds like something my father would say.
His neighbour is a semi-retired municipal commissioner. My father is constantly picking at him why they all need to sit down to have a meeting. With both hands free they could just as well do something useful while they are talking.
Good morning Joseph.
Real good to hear from you . Hope you and family are doing well .
