New project! Normans next gassifier truck

I have no clue. I have been pouring over wire schematics for hours chasing color codes. Holy moly, this is one part of factory fuel injection and on board diagnostics I do not like.

Turns out the main bulk head connector that ties the under hood harness to the dash harness is pinned differently, just enough to be annoying. Engine runs, everything in the cab works perfect but no marker lights no turn signals no license plate lights no brake lights.

Normally I would swap the dash harness from the donor truck but in this case that harness has been chopped and hacked by several previous owners and had its own problems which were extensive enough I refuse to use it. Seen enough pictures and videos online of second gen dodge trucks burning to the ground I wont let mine be one of them.

Did I mention neither Haynes or Chilton’s manuals have wire schematics specific to the 94-95 obd1 trucks, only 96 and up? Or that all the wiring color codes changed between obd1 and obd2? Ya I’m pretty much flyin blind poking things with a test light to find the dedicated circuits and try to work them out from there. The 2 harnesses in the last picture are the interior harness from the green parts truck and the under hood harness from the white truck, with the mismatch bulkhead in between that im pinning out.

Iv had enough im headed home and ill hit it with a clear calm mind tomorrow. Or more likely stare at it side eyed from across the shop all day and let frustration get the better of me

I mean, does a guy REALLY need anything more then head lights???

No, no man. Head lice are bad. Real bad. Takes coal-tar drowning to get rid of 'em.

Seriously. Just try and sort out those late 80’s. early 90’s Honda cars with rear bulb out dash indicator systems. The talking 80’s Chrysler cars. Someday down the timeline all of these new cars with lane drift; blind spot warning; anti-tail-gating; self braking systems. Lots of 360 around proximity sensors, lidar, Infared cameras and more.

Check the ground. After I did the Cummins swap in my 99 Ford 350 I had no wipers power windows, turns out they shared a ground with the transfer case switch, which I remove, because the one I put in was manual floor shift.

That was the very first thing i did checked all grounds cleaned and reinstalled no change. Found several wires in different positions inside the bulkhead so far, but after the wreck last week my multimeter is having issues, makes chasing wires a lot more of a pain

You probably already know this, looking at the picture I see that you took your multimeter battery out but perhaps it helps someone else, when my multimeter shows weird measurements its often as easy as the battery needs replacing.

we are of the same mind set on that one, I dont know if it was just coincidence of the wreck or what but I just popped in a new battery and it seems to be working now. First battery I have had to put in in the ten years since I bought it

Marcus, I am so feeling for you right now. I remember when I put that computer controlled 350 from an 89 IROC Camaro into a carbureted S10 Blazer how much of a pain the wiring was. Only way I got through it was shelling out the big bucks for the factory service manuals for both vehicles . I think I spent more time on all the spaghetti than I spent on everything else put together.

I almost wired in trailer lights once and nearly got them to work.

My brother (who is a machinist) and I had a long conversation yesterday about how easy it would be to make a one off intake manifold and carburate this thing. The trick part would be the lack of distributor, and finding a way to effectively control spark in a v10. I have not dug that far down the rabbit hole to see how it could be done, but I have no doubt it COULD be done. But it is beyond my skills. It would be much easier in the effort of keeping everything I love about the truck to swap the bell housing and dump in a carbed motor, big block chevy most likely with some custom motor mounts. That would be a very simple straight forward swap, and not having inspections or smog here would actually be legal to do.

between trailer wiring and dead batteries, I think that takes up a lot of time for people like me. I cannot count how many trailers I have redone over the years, both professionally for customers and of my own. I currently have 3 trailers one for my boat one small 4x8 utility and my car trailer which I had to redo all of them the moment I got them to make it road worthy. If only I had a ranch or farm where things stayed on sight and never towed down the road it would save a lot of head ache.

My brother I just mentioned one of his side hustles is picking up junk trailers with a title, then picking up a good trailer with a title doing the switcharoo and reselling. It works out pretty well for me as I get the hulk of the title-less trailers for scrap metal and any other goodies. Just parted one out last week that I got a spare axle, fenders, tongue jack, and some led lights off of. His last car trailer had a front mounted turret style crane on the front. I cut it out of the frame it was welded into and patch the trailer back together and got to keep the crane, I loosely plan to mount it on the v10 for loading heavy goods and wood like @mggibb has done in his f250, and if I mount it right it will also double as a on board firetube removal system should the truck ever need servicing in the lower barrel

I think an older 440 would be a better option than a BBC. Plus it would be something Dodge was never smart enough to do other than on an ultra limited scale.

Only problem with that is im not aware of any bell housing that would bolt to the nv4500 was ever used behind a 440, or any big block mopar for that matter. I dont recall if mopar had the same bolt pattern from small block to big block like chev used. But I know for a fact chevy used the nv4500 five speed transmission in the gmt 400 body style pickups in the 90’s, so with the correct bellhousing adapter a chev engine would shoehorn into this truck with ease. Thats a open option to find a very common truck in my area, a second gen dodge that was a factory cummins engine that someone bought and yanked the motor and are selling off the left overs of the truck. Swap bell housing and drop in a chev with a carb and have a 3/4 or one ton 4wd truck with good heavy duty dana axles and heavy duty transmission. But I know thats a ways off the beaten path for most peoples interest. Then again I have never really been one of those guys that is either brand loyal or likes to have the same car or truck as everyone else. It does fly in the face of camouflage a bit though how my trucks normally look…

That would be a truck I built out of happen stance, the truck is found for the right price in the right condition and the motor found the same way, and I would giggle like a school girl every time a dodge purist glanced under the hood

Did not know that about the bell housing. Uncle Tony never learned me that.

Wow Marcus, that just about made me dizzy.
How long are you going to leave that bed board out? That would make me worried I could break a leg if I miss stepped.

That first drive after an engine swap is the best! Good job Marcus!

I’ll have to get a board for that spot eventually, but I would like to change out the inner cables for the control valves to a steel rod so if a valve hangs up I can give it a jiggle from outside of the truck

The first start that first turn of the key is just chefs kiss satisfaction when it fires right up!

I feel very, very, small when I look at what you and Tone can do, you are incredible.

I feel very, very lucky when I look at what you and Tone can do, I am learning so much. I may never reach that level but it makes me want to try harder.

Its all just nuts and bolts, wires fuses relays switches and breakers. Trust me i am so far from an expert at wiring, i consult the more educated very frequently.

Im also hard headed with a lot of determination

Very impressive Marcus. Watching that video I feel wheelbarrows are more my level of engineering
