U. S. A. Cross Country trip

As of right now we are still on for this trip. We are hoping to leave Saturday morning (3/21/2020) for a day trip to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. I hope to still make the long one in May If I can do it responsibly.

I didnā€™t know where to post thisā€¦but since subjects like this have drastically hindered our attempt to make this trip I figured Iā€™d put it here.

If I could find out who the actual leadership of this new ā€œnationā€ in Seattle is, I would recommend this as their new national anthem. Looking at the videos, kind of seems to fit.

Iā€™m going to bring this topic back up.
I am getting ready to get on the road again to finish this trip. I am hoping to leave out of here on the 16th or 17th of August. Trying to get to Cheyenne WY by the night of the 21st. this is traveling on wood. I donā€™t really have and places I have to be at, at a certain time. I am trying to not make this trip high paced. I want to keep it simple and enjoy it. If Bob gets his west coast meetup scheduled at the right time I would love to join them.

I donā€™t like google maps either. I think bing maps is better. Hereā€™s a partial map of your route. Click Directions then Add destination, just keep adding as many destinations as you like.

Well, if you make it that far, I make sure you get plenty of fuel.

Impressive roadtrip! I hope you stay save. Once in a lifetime experience. May I ask about your age?

If North Carolina isnā€™t too out of the way I can prepare some wood chunks for you. Iā€™m in Kings Mountain. Iā€™ve got tons of red oak ready to get chopped up.

Because of this covid thing I canā€™t offer you a bed. If we get our timing and communication right I could meet you at York NE which is where Hwy 81 hits I-80. It would save you over 100 miles.

Cody it is quite a bit out of the way but iā€™ll keep it in mind.
I understand Tom. That sounds like a plan to me. How much wood did you end up with?

On another note i took the truck out on another test run for about 80 miles it performed very well seeing as how i couldnā€™t get better than a 2:1 vacuum ratio in the charbed. I was able to run about 45 mph up and down hills on average.

I have more chunking to do. Will let you know.

Glad to hear that the trip is on.
I can host a West Coast meetup.
I have several tons of very dry chunked wood to fuel you up for your return trip.
I own a 1969 Cessna 172 and have over 4200 hours of flight time.
But due to my size and warm weather can only take up 1 person at a time.
I suggest that you message me with your phone no and I will respond with my no and address for coordination.

Thanks Michael, we have talked about this a few times in the pass about a event like this, and now it is going to happen Washington Stateā€™s first ā€œWood Gas Meet Upā€ ever. This is a historic event.
Hey @JocundJake Jakob, we just got our first rain last night. It has been weeks. And more is on Itā€™s way to get rid of the high fire danger zone. Yehovah is the one who controls the weather. And He is preparing a way for you to drive across the USA and back again.
Calling all DOW members if you are close to Jacobā€™s route that he is taking, haul some wood out to meet him on the rout on the day he is passing by. This will be part of the wood gas meet up going across the ā€œU.S.A. Cross Country Trip Eventā€ . Even if you have to drive on Dino fuel to do it. The last person who did this was our very own Wayne Keith Mr. DOW . We can all do our part too. It might be to just meet Jakob and his group in one of the townā€™s they are passing through. Like Tom Wobig (SE Nabraska) is doing, good job Tom you are doing your part to help this Event out. This is another historical event like what Wayne did. The youngest wood gas driver in the USA with his truck going across the USA and back again. Help make this event happen for our DOW team. Help Sponsor them at @JocundJake .
By personal messaging Jakob.
It might be possible to go live with this on drive on wood. Like the live chats @Chris setup a few years back. Just a thought. Any suggestions Chris on this.
What do you say Members are you in on this?
Jacob called me yesterday while he was out on the road testing his new Gasifier build and gave me a report on itā€¦ It made my day to talk to him. It was just like when I on DOW Site watching a video and riding with one of the members in the gasifer car or truck. Wayne did not get to do this when he drove across the USA. Now it can be done with our DOW site. It can go LIVE WHILE IT IS HAPPENING.

I went out today to uncover the cherry wood that I have been saving for Jakob and it is a good thing I did. The packrats decided to make their homes there. What a mess they managed to chew out the bottoms of the wood sack. Learned a valuable lesson. Donā€™t store the wood in bags unless it is rat prove.
Rebag what I could. The nasty pissed on wood will go into my truck not Jakob. So I started chunking some more cherry wood.
I also have the popular wood in the cages but it is a softer wood. Not as many btuā€™s in it.

The old chunker is working fine cutting and fracturing the wood chunks.
@JocundJake Jakob could you show a picture of the size of wood you use. I would like to make it about the same size that you are using.
Well back to work.

660 pounds of cherry wood chunked up and bagged. More drying the wood should be ready to bag in a couple of days with this dry heat we are having. 94 Ā°F or 34.44 Ā°C. Actually this weather feels really nice from the 100Ā° F or 27.78 Ā°C plus days we were having.
There is something about chunking up wood that is just great. As I am chunking away I am thinking 1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles, 4ā€¦
Then what I can not chunk up and will go into my retort to become charcoal. I am thinking 3 miles, 7 miles, 12 milesā€¦ lots of SWEM thoughts. I almost had to go a get lemons out there chunking.
I decided to join the support team on Jakob quest of DOW across this great country we live in. I will be hauling wood from my place to some where into Montana or further. Jakob will use my wood first and then he will start using the wood from Mikeā€™s place. I think it is great for us that are on the route for this trip to be helping out. Maybe hauling some wood down the road for him like I am doing and be part of the team of doers. If you can even meet him as he passes by to cheer them on that will be wonderful and encouraging.
This is history in the making for DOW, I am glad I could do something to help out.
A 17 teen year old man DOW across America and back again.
Jakob you might post your cell phone number so the DOW membership can call you.
@Chris Chris is there any way we can go live with this event on our website? FB would probably not allow it to run if it doesnā€™t fit itā€™s parameters for showing.
Just a few more days before the event gets on the road.

Wow, I have had a few small holes where a mouse chewed on a bag but they ate half of your Bags!

I have lots of bags and dry chunks so we can fill Jakob up.

Wow Bob.
I am truly grateful for all the help from everyone. I will be bringing plenty of bags I might have a few extras for a few people i will see how it goes
I just got home from an 890 mile trip with the Dakota. I went down to a family reunion in south central Florida and back. I had a hot leak on the way down so it was a lousy ride when i got that fixed it functioned much better.
There is a big bummer though about the whole trip but glad it happened before the big trip instead of in it. The engine started using oil, lots of it. It took 4 quarts to go 250 miles ,and it looks like Iā€™m driving a locomotive from al the smoke. It has a lot of miles on it. Anyway still havenā€™t decided how to fix yet. I have another 318 sitting in the shed that i donā€™t know anything about that i could try. Rebuild an engine this week? I have the one i pulled out of the truck last, i know was running well, I think it burnt a hole in the piston.

Okay now I would like Chris to install a unlike button for what you just said. Lol. But seriously this is really all good when you thinking about it. Yes get the engine fixed rebuilt and the engine broke in before you leave for this trip. It would have not been good if this to happen on your trip across the USA. God works in many different and wonderful ways. I have witness this in my life time of 69 years now and I am still counting. This has happened when I have been getting ready to travel. I have had to repair or fix something big before a trip going out on the open road.
Yehovah is in control of everything. Praises to YEHOVAH. He wants you to be successful in this journey. A smoking truck would not be good advertising of DOW, we all know that and so does God.
DOW does not hurt a engine. But who knows what the engine has been through before you owned the truck. Right. Rebuilting the engine with now great compression and working parts means more horsepower to DOW. This is what you need for this trip. We members here in Washington State can be somewhat flexible with the Wood Gas Meet Up. Mike and Steve and myself are all retired. We are all busy but we are not working for the man anymore. The wife yes. Lol Your day is coming to too young man.

Do you have a way to do a cylinder leak down test? I know the 90s era 318s had a intake manifold/valley pan gasket problem that allowed oil to get into the intake runners and basically made it a 2 stoke smoker. I know this happens a lot in the half ton ram pickups, not sure if the dakotaā€™s are the same intake system

Do you or @SteveUnruh know how to do this test? I have a compression tester is that what you mean?
I would love for that to be the problem.
